Back playing golf a few months after almost 10 yrs away from it with kids and stuff.   Taking a while to get the sharpness around the green which I know will come but its been the long irons that are hard to nail now and not seeing any week to week improvement ...... till last Sat.   I had been working on my short game with open stance ( about 30deg open ) as I always used for short/medium pitches and I decided why not try this for all shots as not as flexible as in the past.  Was absolutely amazed at the results.  Few yrds given up as ball flying higher for all clubs but man were they straight and solid hits giving consistent distance which is far better than getting 160 one shot and 140 next time.

Any one else started using an open stance?

Trying to get this back on topic.
Are you saying you play full shots with your stance 30 degrees open?
That seems pretty far open to me.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

When I was struggling with my hook, I would open my stance like 20 degrees. I played a big push. Like, 20 degrees open, and just hold off club rotation and hit pushes all day long.

I have been playing around with a semi open stance. At least I think it is maybe i am now squared. As a righty that back right foot sets me. I went from a common fade/ slice to strengthening my grip and a bit of an open stance laser pulls. Still trying to figure out new grip and how i grip the club( no more palms)

In practice at least (still getting snow here in tropical MN) opening my stance has been very positive. I'm getting to my left side in what feels like the first time consistently and my strikes are much more powerful. I've been playing with my shoulder line as in if I keep it lined up to the target shots are straight and when lining up on my foot line and aiming my club face a bit less left getting a nice controlled fade. Can't wait to try this on the course.

Totally, I aim from 9° left with my driver to 6° left with wedges.

That is very exact! I guess that level of precision makes sense for a low handicapper.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
