I can hit monster hooks. Maybe that’s part of my mental block. I hate hooks. For me right now, it may be an anatomy thing per Erik on my Evolvr lesson. I have to undo years of the way my left wrist has been working. It may take a while unfortunately.
I'll try to answer why I will not be trying this. Specifically it has to do with "muscle memory". I have 2 teaching pros I listen to. Both have seen me swing personally and know where my game is at currently. I am working to incorporate a minor change in my swing and to stop and try something totally different would impede my progress. My goal in practice is to make the intended action the "Natural tendency". If I spent a week trying this method I would gradually destroy the muscle memory I have been working to create based on a personalized plan. Last fall I changed my grip and it took several months before that felt "Normal". I would hate to arbitrarily change things and risk messing up what my teaching pros are telling me to focus on.
Oh man, thank you @DaveP043 for responding. I had to go back and re-read the descriptions and look more closely at the diagrams, as I was misunderstanding it.
Two thoughts from a golf newb (who's been doing a lot of "off-season" training and a lot of golf swing mechanics study):
1. Are you sufficiently grounded? Getting your feet "in the ground" as much as you need?
Some of us need a lot of ground force to stay balanced and centered. Others seem to do just fine with not so much.
2. Are you perhaps overdoing the weight shift thing?
The transition should be just a little hip move target-wards, not a major movement. I don't even think of it as a "weight shift," per se, but more a slight "ground force shift."
The purpose is three-fold: To shallow the club a bit, to help prevent an OTT move, and to add some unwind torque. Yes: All with that one little move :)
I was due to record an updated swing video soon anyway, so I will do that this week. Will also check the videos posted above. Thanks for the responses.
