Contrived/Manipulated Fittings?

But it still didn't go longer than my gamer (by eyeball, staring the ball down until it finished its roll out).  So unless I want to buy the shot shape and height I won't be making any purchases.

Not to say the fitter was correct. The only reliable distance is carry distance. I know a guy who hit the ball supper low, and he would gain about 40 yards of distance from spring to end of summer because the course dried out and got fast. I bet he could have gotten fitted, hit the ball a tad higher, ended up not maxing out at his end of summer yardage, but overall averaged more distances.

Never trust roll out numbers on a trackman or other launch monitor.

Ball speed, vertical launch, spin rate are the primary numbers to watch. Also, smash factor for consistency of strike.

Agreed. On the carry distance.  No dispute there.  But my eyeballs saw the story there, too. It's a familiar range, still a bit water soaked, and I took note of where the balls were landing, as well.  Before roll out.

Double Mocha Man, I use Trackman almost everyday during demo days/ clubfittings.  Here’s something  for you…

What he emailed you, did you see  every shot on there that gave the club a 40 yard advantage amd did you see every shot on there from your own club or did he just send you the average?

Heres why I asked… Trackman makes errors and if the operator doesn’t notice, you’ll end up with that 40 yard gain.  On occasion mine will read back spin of 227 and the distance will be wrong.  The 227 error is common on one of the ones I use.  Also, sometime is get a total misread with zero launch angle, zero spin and the yardage will be something like 542 yards, 665 yards.  Something I always catch and have a laugh over with the customer.  BUT… imagine if I didn’t catch a 665 yard misread, it ended up as part of the average I sent you??  There is your 40 yards.

I bring the customer in on the fitting. I show him all the lines of the shots he hit amd then show him the average.  He sees it all with me AND he gets it on email.

So this is a huge possibility of what happened.  I’d do it again and ask to look at it there with him.  The irons I believe…8-10 yards is what I see a lot.  40 yards on a driver is possible but you need to see line by line both drivers and look at the spin amd launch numbers… something might not add up.

Thanks Typhoon, I missed your post of yesterday.  I demoed 5 to 6 club/shaft configurations.  I was supplied only with averages, on all clubs.

That drive sold me on my Sim Max. Check out that Club Speed and that Carry Distance. 😆I had them reset the machine. But it was photo worthy.

Not bad for 118 MPH ball speed.

I'm going to have to work at getting my swing speed down to 86mph so I can drive the ball 417 yards.  Have you shown this secret of long-driving to Mr. DeChambeau yet?

That sure is a fuzzy screen. But, it's better than the one in a certain golf shop in Bellingham. That one is so out of focus it's difficult to read to read the text at all.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
