To me, this tells me the guy had no regard for his safety or the safety of the other player.

Come on, he made no attempt to go low. He intended to hit the player, leading with his helmet, chest height or above. If he intended to hit waist height, he missed his mark by such a large margin the I wonder if he ever trained in tackling before in his life,

Yeah, still …!Again, it’s happening very fast. The defender is I assume reacting to where he sees the ball going at first. Maybe he only sees the receiver at the end. The receiver is crouched a little here.
Yes, maybe it was an intentional, dirty hit. But I am not sure and wouldn’t be condemning the defender without asking him about it. It’s a dangerous game, and we are much wiser to enjoy it as spectators than as participants)

Dirty hits do not have to be with the intent to do harm. Just being poor in technique is a dirty play because it can cause harm versus being technically sound.

Bosa for the 49ers. He is now practicing how to sack a QB with out landing on top of them so he does get called for a roughing the passer. As an athlete, he is improving on a technique that is now required due to how the rules are being enforced. He is doing his job at a high level. That DB, he just wanted to blast someone. He wasn't trying to tackle. He was trying to hit someone.

@saevel25, that's an excellent point about intent being essentially irrelevant. If the primary goal is to avoid serious injury, intent has no logical place in defining what type of contact is acceptable. And the language of the new or recent rule on defenseless players, there is no language regarding intent; in fact, even if there is evidence of intent to have avoided the contact, the penalty still applies. However, the prohibited contact is rather strictly defined. It's basically helmet contact in the head/neck area, or helmet contact anywhere if the assailant "launches" himself into the player. In the case of this play we are discussing, I don't think it would have been a penalty if he had hit him below the neck. Even "trying to hurt him" but hitting below the neck would have been "ok," because he didn't "launch" himself into the player.

But thinking about this has made me wonder about alot of things. Physical intimidation is part of so many sports, even non-contact sports like baseball. Wanting to inflict pain on your opponent, and the converse, being willing to subject yourself to pain in order to score/win, etc., just come with the territory in sports. While there have to be lines drawn (nobody wants head and spinal cord injuries in any sport), when you get down into the weeds with details it becomes difficult to know where to draw them.

In the end, it's very difficult to avoid serious injury in a game where the players run so fast, where contact is part of the game, and the action happens so quickly. I hope they continue to work on the rules and enforcement, and that players learn ways to still play football and hit and intimidate and so forth, but in a way that avoids serious injury as much as possible.

I was watching in real time. Horrific!
Once they got him off the field the ref gave each team 5 mins to warm up. Diggs tried to rally Buffalo, but you could see the players just could not get going.
Good on the coaches for meeting and having their player's backs!
There is no way Buffalo could have been competitive in that game, especially wondering if one of their own was fighting for his life.

Gonna be interesting how that part of it unfolds.

Troy Vincent, the NFL's VP of football operations rather directly denied that.

It's going to be really easy for people to come out and bash the NFL.

There are lots of witch hunts that have already begun.
There are those calling for massive reform and/or other extreme measures.

I'm cutting them a break. Nobody saw this coming.

Right now I'm just really hoping that Damar Hamlin is going to be okay.

I hope he's well enough to continue playing.   I enjoy watching him.   Either way, I only hope the best for him.

They’re the Toughest of the Tough. But When Their NFL Teammates Started Dying, These Men Grew Afraid.

More than 40 current or former pro players aged 50 or younger have fallen since 2021. The number is staggering. But it doesn’t account for their peers’ despair.

Should be a great Super Bowl for viewers.  Mahomes and the Chiefs are never out of it.  Hurts and his Eagles are playing lights out.  Some are calling it the Reid Bowl.  Chief's coach, Andy Reid, coached quite a few years at the Eagles before coming to KC.  First time two brothers have played against each other in the SB.  Travis Kelce, Chief's record setting tight end, will face his older brother who is the offensive center for the Eagles.

We bleed Chiefs red, out here.  They are not good for this old heart, though, seeming to run every game up until the last seconds to win.

The process of selling the Commanders is creating far more entertainment than anything the team has done in recent...

Well this is getting more interesting….

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
