@klineka thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely tap the sensor to the watch even though it auto tags.

As the OP I can tell you that while I’ve only played a few rounds, the X5 and the ShotScope program is so much better than my Garmin/CT10 setup. Enjoy!

Have you have encountered any issues with the watch so far like GPS taking a while to connect, excessive battery life drain, etc?

Just browsing around online in other forums some people seem to have quite a few issues with stuff like GPS accuracy and battery life, but they also might be in the minority too.

In my experience, there is no difference in GPS connection time between the V2/V3 watches, the H4 handheld, and the X5 watch. Every once in awhile, the initial course connection takes a long time. not sure if this is due to my location - hilly course with lots of tall trees maybe obstructing / ricochet signal, and often heavy fog in the summer mornings (SF Bay Area), but not sure about the fog part.

Of the Shotscope devices, the H4 had the best battery life, maybe even enough for 2 rounds. The X5 gets down to 40% battery at the end of the round, so as long as it is charged prior to starting I don't think it is an issue.

I didn’t have an issue with GPS and it took a few minutes but was about the same as my Garmin. That said, I think it has a lot to do with location and weather. Battery life is something I’m watching. Usually I’ve ended rounds (3.5 hours) with more than 50%. But the last round I was almost empty which was surprising. So I’m going to keep an eye on that.

Okay. The season is starting to slow down here in Chicago, and I was only able to squeeze in five rounds with the ShotScope X5 — although we still have some time left. While it’s not perfect (as we all know), it fits my needs really well and I enjoy the amount of data it collects and interprets. There is definitely a bit of “garbage in garbage out” so being able to edit a round is really helpful.

So “Thank You” for everyone’s thoughts on this thread. Very much appreciated.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
