This guy says that the rules of golf are complicated . More complicated than the Theory of Relativity, it would seem. He's a forum member here, so I hope he gets a chance to explain...

At any rate, I don't think the Rules of Golf are complex at all. Look at what happened to the Steelers a few weeks ago - a guy muffs a punt and the Steelers recover, yet in the end, the Steelers are penalized for interfering with a fair catch and the other team gets the ball 15 yards from where the Steelers would have had it. What about what we just saw in the Angels/ChiSox game?

The Rules of Golf are a little complex because in no other sport can "the ball bounced and then went into this lady's hat, which lies between these stands and that temporary drinking fountain" actually happen. Golf isn't played within white lines (though, technically if a course has a lot of OB, it is, but you know what I mean).

I think that if you know the basics of how to drop a ball (and the # of clublengths you get), and if you consider fairness, equity, and intent, you can arrive at nearly every ruling out there. I also think that the number of times unusual rulings occur are so few and far between that the more difficult rules are never really called into question.

Rules aren't complicated. Interpretation of rules could be... but most of them could be easily identified correctly if you read the rulebook a few times.

I don't know all of the rules, but I know a lot of the main ones. I just play my ball as it lies and go from hole-to-hole.

I think reading the rulebook once or twice thoroughly would help everyone out, including myself. I can tell just by talking to Rafi at the Newport Cup that he knows the rules of golf pretty thoroughly because he has read the rulebook.

I don't think the rules are too complex at all. And besides, they are what they are. Those rules were created for the game of golf, and it should stay that way.

And this is coming from someone who isn't that great of a golfer and doesn't know all the rules.
