"Who" is in your back pocket?

I need a wallet that is acceptable in "high end" social situations.

I usually buy an inexpensive but sturdy wallet, and carry it for about 7 or 8 years until its falling apart, and then buy a new, inexpensive wallet (usually packaged with a keychain or some other accessory) and start over again.

It's that time again and my wife (who is an atty for a company that I promise you everyone has heard of) is wanting me to explore options other then "inexpensive."

So I went to e-bay and typed in "Designer Mens Wallet"
Seems like every designer makes a mans wallet.. Coach, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Versace... All the big boys..

Some of them are $200 or more, WAY more then I would spend on a wallet.... But some are fairly resonable. (under $100)

I know this sounds a little trivial, but how do you guys go about buying a wallet??
Do you care who made it??
What sorts of "features" do you look for?
Where is the best place to order a high end wallet?

I'm serious about this and if your afraid of ridicule, PM me with info and it'll be our little secret.

Take a look at Coach. They make really nice, small wallets for men. You can store the basics: credit cards, business cards and some photos. It also comes in a dark chocolate color. (If that matters to you) The wallet is less than $100, new. I have owned one for seven years.

I don't recommend carrying cash in it. Instead, I would use a money clip.

It is now thread-bare and starting to fail me so I'm retireing it. That's what prompted this whole thread. (And thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.)

I haven't found a Coach I like yet.. I have found a Prada I like.. And I found an Armani, but the wife says it's too busy looking.. Prada Armani There is a Versace I like too, but again, the wife says its too... busy... Versace

You would have to fold your cash. Depending on how much cash you carry, it could make the wallet, thicker. If you're going to carry, say, a few $20s and a $100 bill, I say go for it.

Reading between the lines here, it sounds like the type of wallet

YOU would like isn't acceptable in social situations you find yourself in due to your WIFE'S job. I could be wrong. My recommendation........have the wife buy you a new wallet!!!!! SHE'S a lawyer, SHE wants you to explore other options, and from other posts you have made SHE keeps making inputs to the wallet equation. Yep, sounds like SHE needs to go buy you one (Oh, and if SHE happens to read this forum, well, ahem, to heck with this, you need to sack up and go buy yourself a good wallet )

You could also get one of those money clips that have 2 credit card slots on one side and a clip on the backside for your moneys...even the higher end brands aren't too pricey since theyre so simple.

I went from a Fossil that lasted me 5 years, to a Cole Haan. The Cole Haan is much better quality, but we shall see how long it last.

Go with the money clip for the cash and a card holder for the ID and credit cards.

I carry a Bosca that I got at Nordstrom. http://www.bosca.com/ High quality but maybe not quite as expensive as Coach.

I've had a few Hartmanns and a Coach before, but my current one is a Tumi. Prolly the best wallet I've owned.
