Amidst all of the usual clamor of a US Open, I witnessed one very memorable moment.

On Sunday, Kevin Streelman (the first day leader) finished the 17th hole, and was headed over to the 18th tee. Where the pedestrian path was roped off to let the players across, he stopped. His caddie took off his bib and set the clubs down. An older gentleman came out of the crowd and took the clubs and bib. What was going on? Turned out it was Streelman's father, and he was going to have him caddie down the 18th on Father's Day. Very very cool.

Well probably because the Tiger and Rocco playoff cast a very large shadow.

I didnt even know who else placed in the top ten. I got so side tracked by the playoff. I had to go back and look at what everyone else did. I agree we should have heard about this. I imagine in the days to come we will hear more stories like this after the legendary playoff battle stories cool off a bit.

It's a damn shame that story didn't make as much noise as it did - that's a great tale and it should have been all over the news - those are good times.

They got by with it...why not?

That's really cool . . . good for Streelman, great gift for Father's Day.

The guy you're answering is probably asking the question because he knows you can't have two caddies.

In this case, though, the one caddie relinquished his role and gave it up to the father, so the player never had more than one caddie at a time. Same thing would happen if a caddie was injured during a round (or even fired) - you can get a replacement caddie.

That is amazing! What a great idea, and what an opportunity for the father.

Great Story.

Reminds you of John Daly having John Gruden start to caddie for him mid-round, right?

Honestly, though, great story. Glad I could hear it in its simplicity, not on a maudlin 4-minute segment on SportsCenter with Tom Rinaldi narrating.

Best moments for me were on Thursday and on Monday.

I was off work both those days (worked on the weekend).

My 8 year old son who is just starting to get into golf a bit sat next to me on the sofa and we watched the opening round and the playoff.

He asked tons of questions and absorbed a lot. It was special time spent with my son.

He was really all about Tiger on Thursday....but on Monday he and I both were pulling hard for Rocco. My son got a good lesson in guts and what it means to be the underdog.

My father came to visit last week and my son started spouting out stats and strategies to him...it was comical.
