I oredered Monday and recieved my books today from Amazon. Both are new copies and I my total price was $14.98.

I started with "Putting Out of Your Mind" I'm two chapters in. While the message may be contribed, "think positive thoughts and you dreams may happen" there is still a lot to learn from that style of thinking.

My ball Striking is good enough now, to be a 90's golfer, that's my goal for this year, but my putting is not. If I can improve my putting as much in a month as I did my striking, I'll be a 90's golfer in by August...

his books are great. i read "golf is not a game of perfect" and it made total sense. i recommend it to others...definately one to check out...haha

Love this book. In particular it helped restore my confidence in my putting, and my approach to putting.

Aiming for a very specific place in the cup on short putts has helped immensely. Breaks I read more quickly and decisively, and going with the initial instinct read, has worked for me. Also has me expecting to sink a lot more shots in general. Aiming for a much more narrowly focused target, rather than a more general area, seemed to pay instant dividends. And there's plenty more in the book. Re-readable too.

Putting out of your mind is a GREAT book. It has done wonders for my putting and mental game as a whole. I'll be moving on to his other book soon

(It feels like I've posted this before recently, oh well)

Also check out "The Golf Of Your Dreams" also by Rotella. Has some interesting comments in it and clarifies that the mental aspect alone won't make someone a great golfer, that it takes dedicated practice as well along with the mental side of the game to see great (my words) improvement.

I started reading it, got sidetracked with other stuff, getting back to reading and applying it again.

And a short side note: never loan out your Rotella books because you'll never get them back. I loaned out some years ago, had to buy my own replacements. So it goes sometimes.

Man I just got this book for £3.99 delivered and have read over half of it, my playing partner bought it too, he read it and loved it so much he bought the full set of Dr Bob's

I have gotta say it has already helped my game, well my temperament, as I tend to beat up on my self and let bad shots spoil the next few, only let that happen to me twice in the round today so that has gotta be a 80% improvement LOL.

So I got the audio books for The 15th Club and due to the positive reviews of Putting out of My Mind, that one as well. I have to say that I just didn't get them much. I think the 15th Club was much better with ways of understanding what he was trying to convey. I thought the best part of either book was in the 15th Club where he talks about putting. He's to the point and gets the point across. Not all the story telling that he does about this player he's worked with and that player he's worked with.

For those that have read and rave about these books, what did you take away from them?

I've just finished listening to the "Not a Game of Perfect" audiobook and can't wait to try and put it into action. The idea of really visualing the shot you want to play, seeing it fly/roll to your target is something I've never done but it makes perfect sense. I've always been one of those "Don't hit it in the lake" kind of guys, but I'm going to really try to change my perspective and see if Dr Bob's theory works in practice!

From the comments here, I think "The 15th Club" might be next on my hitlist...

Just finished the book "Putting out of your mind" and wasn't a big fan. Found it quite repetitive and told me some very obvious stuff. Hopefully "Golf is not a game of perfect" isn't the same way.

Funny how different stuff resonates for different people. I read "Putting Out Of Your Mind" recently and ate it up with a spoon. That guy Rotella describes who gets in his own way -- bitches about his putting all the time, basically hates to walk on the green, stands over the ball thinking "just don't three putt!" -- that's been me since I picked up golf again this year. Well not anymore. I love putting! I can't wait to putt! I am a good putter and damn handsome too! See, it's working already.

Stretch.

This is a great book that I reread over the summer...when I really followed the book, I was shooting lights out...I have found that some of my concentration has lapsed so I just picked it up again tonight...concentrating on the smallest possible target...holing out...preshot routine...all stuff that I slipped out of doing that was making a difference. The concepts in this book get you in the frame of mind to perform at your best. I just went on Ebay and picked up his latest book, The 15th Club for 7 bucks shipped.

Rotella´s books are just mental masturbation imo.

Pretty much all of his books only consist of "stay positive", "play one shot at a time", "be fearless" etc... common sense advice.

Then pretty much every other paragraph is a story of him trying to convice you that he really knows what he´s talking about because his advice supposedly helped XYZ player to win on tour.

Some tips might be somewhat useful for mid to high handicappers, but for better players the books have 0 value.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

Tour players don´t have emotions.

Oh, I have walked enough rounds with some Tour Players to see plenty of emotion...it's how they handle the game between their ears that determines the card holders and the guys going back to Q-school.

...the immediacy of a golf shot outcome, perhaps, may be the singular act from which a person receives a reaction to their action or stimuli. Maybe knowing of a live electrical wire and then touching it, would be quicker, but not much. Maintaining indifference to the golf shot takes incredible discipline. If a person can 'handle the game' mentally, it could only prove advantageous, like perhaps many other tasks.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
