After reading all these comments....I would have to say...the Ashley/Ashleigh team are buying into the stereotypical role of the dumb blondes (so are the viewers) and playing it very well.

I don't necessarily disagree.

I am pulling for the underdogs....Raul and Jameica. They seem like the most down to earth team. Being that they are both minorities, don't think many people would pay much attention to them since this is the world we live in. Go Raul and Jameica!

I like that couple too, and hope they continue to do well. They seem like quality folks. That said, I've got to say that your theory that inherent social racism makes them uninteresting to discuss is pretty outrageous. First, there was discussion of the fact that J was on Durameds, and her stats on that tour, as well as the fact that R has a pretty ugly swing. So your premise that they are not the subject of discussion is incorrect. Second, you describe them as down to earth. Exactly. Accordingly they're not particularly fun to discuss. The N.C. boys are an interesting pair of characters, the blondes are the blondes, the father/son have relationship issues that inspire discussion. J and R may be likeable enough, but they don't offer a whole lot of fireworks. But to attribute that to their race (and impliedly to the racism of those of us discussing the show) is pretty unwarranted.

I really like Charlotte for some reason. She seems intelligent, rational, well manered, and has definite golf chops. She's also quite cute in her own right. Indeed, were I a single production assistant on Highway 18 seeking to date a contestant, I'd pick her over Ashleigh/ey any time.

Charlotte:

Absolutely true. I'm rooting for the Charlotte/Rob team, because of their demeanor, decency, and (I must confess) Charlotte's good looks.

What's in my bag:

Was it just me, or was it totally obvious that the blondes came in last place as soon as they started giving their recap? (A few minutes into the show) The tears were not even out of their eyes!

This show has been fun to watch the first two weeks. It's a nice change from the Big Break series. It's hard to cheer against Rob and Charlotte because of their positive attitudes, but I find myself pulling for Parker and Andy. They are backwoods country boys like myself, and they always keep things humorous. That's how my best friend and I would be if we were on the show. Good stuff.

Charlotte:

charlotte is definitely pretty but that statement was really uncalled for, its a competition and they were trying to get ahead, her goofy brother should have just simply sped up and "showed us what the enclaves would do"

Uh, yeah... I said it earlier in the thread and I'll say it again here: these people are polite compared to some of the things that are said and done on shows like the Amazing Race. She simply stated her feelings, that the girls "bothered her". It doesn't imply that she hates them, nor was she insulting them in any way that I can see.

I missed this week's show with the PGA taking over GC, but didn't miss the fun. I was able to interview Rob and Charlotte , and those good ole boys, Parker and Andy to find out what they thought of the show so far.

I love that I always learn something I didn't know when I talk to the contestants.

I'm off to Mexico for a vacation and hoping that I'll be able to watch GC while I'm there so I can continue the interviews. But if I can't see it, maybe you can help me out.

Why don't you watch the show and then send me the questions you want to ask the contestants. You can reach me at golfgal[at]on-mark-it.com OR post your questions here and I'll check back to see what you want me to ask.

Cheers
Gayle

You know, I was going to let this go, but, the more I thought about it the more it really torqued me off. I don't know what has happened in lesliebbgolf's life, but to come on this blog and say that as your first comment is offensive, to put it bluntly, and smacks of the racism to which you accuse others of. Raul and Jameica are very nice, which is a good quality for a spouse and what you want in a friend, but does that alone make good TV or water cooler talk the next day? No, people will talk about who fell down or excelled, who got into a fight with who or who called the other a so and so. Raul and Jameica are very solid, but not much spark. When they kick butt, create an incident, or tell each other to "run like no fat boy has ever run", people will discuss it. It's that simple.... jmoc

Exactly. This was clearly a troll. Besides which, until leslie posted her ridiculous comment, it hadn't even occured to me that Raul was anything but a good natured caucasion dude with a bad swing.

You are right. It wasn't aired on the 5th because of the PGA, but I'm sitting here in Playa Del Carmen watching the golf channel at the time it is supposed to be on (10 pm EST) and I'm watching the History of The Ryder Cup instead. I don't understand - doesn't GC broadcast the same shows in Mexico and US? They advertised Highway 18 today, but aren't showing it here.

Darn! I'm going to miss two episodes I guess as I am away for 2 weeks.

The girls continued to be jerks.

I wasn't particularly fond of the way they settled ties. Charlotte and Rob came in last and were penalized appropriately - by having +4 added to their score. They then TIED the Ashle__ team, but because they arrived late (incurring that +4), they lost? LAME. Just as lame at the top where the team that came in first tied, but won the "tiebreaker"?

Lame.

P.S. Golfgal - you should ask the Ash____ team about their breaking the rules re: driving laws. They had to have broken them by now - particularly when they passed the teams in the first episode. I doubt the other teams weren't going as fast as allowed.

The girls continued to be jerks.

I will ask them again - I did bring it up in their

interviews two weeks ago , but then I asked the other contestants what they thought and found out that the Ash-team was reprimanded after the day was over. But because they got a stroke anyway (i.e. it didn't change the outcome), no penalty was given. However, it was said that GC was very insistent that driving rules must apply and penalities will be given for breaking them. So we will probably see some of that again. Sure wish I could have watched the show last night - sounds like it was quite interesting. cheers Gayle

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
