I'm proud to say I'm one of Ben Curtis' biggest fans, and while we have a slight lull in PGA tour action, why not take a gander at this one.

What do you think of Ben and his NFL gear? From talking with him, he's a season ticket holder with Ohio State football and is an avid Cleveland Browns fan, however he wears the gear of the hometown NFL team wherever he plays.

Now as an avid Browns fan myself, I'm ok with it. It gets fans to his side, and I can't remember who but another golfer used to do something similar, so it may be in honor of him (I wasn't smart enough to ask why he does it). However, when he wears the steelers or Lions stuff, it's an odd sight to see me rooting for someone wearing that stuff.

So all in all - is it a fun thing, dishonoring the game, tacky, just his choice - I've heard a wide variety of answers. He's representing the USA in the Ryder Cup, and won't be surprising anyone, any more. Also, for the record - he's truly one of the nicest and most humble men I've ever had the honor of meeting.

He's required to by the NFL. He has a contract to wear those clothes.

I think it's one of the dumber endorsements on Tour - Ben has nowhere near the game or charisma of Payne Stewart - but the guy's earning a living and I really don't care what he's wearing. It's colors and a logo - it's not like he's playing with a green painted chest that says "JETS" on it.

I don't necessarily care for the look, but like Erik said, it helps pay the bills for sure. If the NFL was sponsoring me, I'd wear the stuff without a doubt.

I agree. I think it's stupid, but I don't hate him for it.

It's actually a contract with Reebok to wear it's NFL apparel. Anyways, I bet a lot of hometown guys at events see his hat or shirt and then say hey that is cool I want one. Esp old dudes who are way too into football.

I like it personally. Minaly because it's not too over-the-top. Meaning, the logos and colors are not extremely loud or anything. Also, I love NFL football!!

I honestly don't really care. At first I thought it was a bit odd, but since he's being paid to do it...I mean I'd wear A&F; cargos and a collared cut off T if they sponsored me

What ever works.

Seems like a good dude, plus gets the hometown host city of the tourney he's at gets a little more "jacked up". I can see some Bucs gear at Copperhead next year getting some cheers from the fans that are there for the "event", not so much to watch world class talent, which is cool by me, the more the merrier.

Maybe he can steal Jon Gruden from Daly's bag for our Tampa event, that would be cool, then pound some beers with Long John, Chuckie, and Ben Curtis at the Hooter's Owl's Nest after the round, maybe moon some reporters also.

See it as a win-win for everyone, which is rare now a days.

no problem with ben, he's just as poorly dressed in corporate logo as any other professional golfer, don't know how much the nfl is playing ben but the nfl needs to be paying more money into the player's union benefits for ex-players who are now disabled

They will beat their swords into golf clubs and their spears into putters. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Old Tom Morris 2:4

Great point, put them through the system and spit them out. Owners get all the money, just a business deal.

But...they were living the life while they were playing, to hell with proper financial planning. It still amazes me how a guy that can catch a football and run a 4.3 forty can make more than the average brain surgeon....and how we can get the public to finance NFL stadiums for these owners....but we can't afford to build jails for the scum of society, and/or a better school system for the youth and future of our country.... I hope everyone enjoys their Fantasy Football season!

A lot of endorsement deals are dumb when it comes right down to it. Do you think corporations are flocking to KPMG's accounting services just because Phil is wearing their logo on his cap?

I wrote this in another post a few days ago:

"I agree with Colin Cowherd who says "In America, theres' two seasons: Football season and waiting-for-football season." I think Ben Curtis wearing the logos and colors of the local NFL team is the coolest thing in golf. There's a hundred PGA pros on the course every weekend sporting some financial/investment/consulting firm logo I've never heard of and don't care about. I still have no idea what the crap "KPMG" is on Phil Mickelson's cap, and I'm not going to take time to look it up. I'm sure they do one of the three things I just mentioned. Anyway, Ben wearing the NFL stuff is very intelligent marketing and in my opinion makes him the most creatively dressed guy on the course when he plays."

I can't believe nobody thinks his endorsement deal is as cool as I do. I guess that just proves I'm getting to be an old fart with bad tastes.
