Im giving this one to Padraig. As controversial and debatable this can get, I would give it to Harrington. My only reasoning behind this is because its time for someone else to get player of the year instead of Tiger...

Either one of these guys deserve it.

If Paddy bounces back and wins the FedExCup, he can steal the Player of the Year award. If he doesn't, however, it's Tiger's again. Woods' record this year was incredible, even though he only played 6 tournaments or whatever it was.

Golfer of the first half of the year; Tiger Woods,

Golfer of the entire year; Padraigh Harrington.

You cannot ignore the TWO majors in a year which was enough for Mark O'Meara to win the honours in '98 when he did the same thing despite Duval winning or placing in everything. Some said it was unfair but agin... TWO majors. When it comes to measuring greatness in 2008 that is twice as good as any other. The fact he plays all over the world and across two tours and can still do it all is further testament to that. I really look forward to the day when the Tigers of the PGA tour do play everywhere even when the oil tycoons aren't paying them a squillion dollars to do it. The days of Nicklaus et al coming to Australia for the Aus Open seem tragically to be over... sorry i got a little off point there so I will stop there on my rant.

I think it has to be Harrington. IMO, it would be an injustice if Tiger gets it.

Harrington get's my vote because when more time goes by and you look back it's all about the majors.

I'd have to say Tiger. I mean, I know he didn't win has many majors has Padraig, but he won a mojor playing only with one leg, litteraly...

Besides, of the 6 times he played, he was top-5 every time. No one else has done that..

09 Goals- Handicap to 2 (I'm crazy I know)- Win 10 tournaments (dune)- Win...

Harrington won the Open Championship with one wrist too... Given the need to get through the hay there and the need to shape it, I would say a wrist would be worse to deal with than a knee. And I have had a knee reconstruction on my left knee too so I know what that feels like.

I do realise it was relative and Tiger's knee was worse than Paddy's wrist (seemingly) but you still can't ignore 2 majors.

You can play with a wrist in pain. You don't walk using your wrist, or do you? It's not only because of the swing that stressed his leg and knee, he had to walk a lot for at least 5 days... Paddy won 2 majors so what... He wasn't in has much pain has tiger was, and tiger "nearly" had a perfect season... although he only played 7 events

Tiger said himself that the only pain he felt was after contact. I am not saying that it is not amazing to retain that power through the ball when you know pain is coming, but if he was unable to walk then he could have done a Casey and got a cart. I've had the same knee reconstruction as Tiger and walking is not an issue. And are you proposing that because he had trouble 'walking' in one of his tournaments that he should be the player of the year?

And you did just say 'so what' to two majors in a row. Wow would probably be more appropriate... And Tiger nearly had a perfect 6 weeks. That is not a season in anyone's terms. I totally agree that his US Open was one of the greatest major victories ever but again, it was one week. It would be a brave golfer to bet against him for next year though!

I vote for Tiger. Padraig has a great year but he missed the cut in the Playoffs, I was expecting more of him. So I go with Tiger.

After Harrington's two missed cuts in the FedExCup Playoffs, Tiger has this one wrapped up. If Padraig could have finished the year strong, he would have had a solid shot. But it's not happening now.

I'm inclined to agree. Padraig was almost nowhere except in two majors. He won 50% of the ones he played in, and Tiger won 50% and finished second in the other 50%. More PGA Tour wins and heck, more money won despite fewer events - it goes to Tiger.
