One lone Callaway hybrid amongst all the PING? Must be a long term favorite.

Good looking bag Mike.  Just curious since you are all ping do you test other brands or just sticking with one keeps things simple?  Also that stretch 3, do you play much off the deck or as another option on a tight driving hole?

I've made a couple of changes:

Driver: Callaway Epic Flash set to 8*

3w: Haven't decided whether my trusty Adams Tight Lies Titanium 13.5* is staying or going.  If it goes, the Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero will replace it.  I've got it set to 17*, with the weight in the front, and the back weight removed.

3h: Taylormade GAPR Hi at 19*

4h: Nike Vapor Speed at 22*

5h: Nike Vapor Speed at 25*

6i-PW: Nike VR TW v10 irons

AW: Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Forged 51* (I made my first hole-in-one with this club from another set)

SW: Cleveland 588 CB 2.0 at 56* and 12* of bounce

LW: Cleveland 588 CB at 60* and 12* of bounce

Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Beach Prototype center shaft (I just got this putter this past week, so that's why I posted a couple of pix of it.  I love it.  It replaced my Seemore sb1.)

I've also got the SuperSpeed sticks in the bag too.

I test pretty much most new equipment and if it's better it goes in the bag. When the Rogue driver came out from Callaway I was able to make a visit to their range in Carlsbad. Hit the Epic and Rogue, tested a bunch of different combos and the told me, he can't beat the PING (400 LST at the time) but if I wanted to play Callaway he could get me one that's close.

That's basically been my experience with equipment, I could play another brand but it's rare for me to find something better. PXG had a demo day with the Gen 3 stuff recently and I spent an hour hitting the 0311T and P and they were very ok. Did the same kind of thing with the latest Odyssey, Scotty and TaylorMade putters.

I tend to prefer PING for a couple reasons, they're durable, I can get the swing weights I want and they don't make mistakes with lie, loft or swing weight. I check every iron I get and they're always dead on. The last several years I've been lucky enough to be able to make an annual visit to Phoenix to test and get fit by their guys, so if I'm being honest I'm sure it makes me a little biased.

From a playability standpoint, the irons have a good amount of bounce, are fairly forgiving without ballooning and they go far without coming off hot. You can use the wedges forever and they still create a ton of spin. I also like that you have a lot of high-level players who engineer these clubs, they have to play them in competition so you know it's gotta work.

I love it off the deck. I've hit some awesome shots with it the last year or so. Wasn't any need to switch to the 410. I'll also use it off the tee, maybe once a round. I prefer the bigger head, just looks like you can smash it.

Having said that, I'm curious to try the SIM Max 3-wood, it's a great looking head and the return of the V-Sole might be a good combo with the updated technology.

I'd like to try that someday.  I've added a few more ping clubs to my bag the last year and really like them.

I've got the regular g400 3 wood and it's so easy to hit.  I'll have to test the other versions sometime.

Thanks for the reply, good luck with your events this year.

For now:

  • Cobra F9 Tour Driver, X-flex shaft (I forget which, but the HZRDUS is likely). I swap this out with an Epic Flash and a PING G410.
  • Callaway BB 816 Alpha, Stiff shaft ~85g, 14° (lofted up to 15° with the hosel)
  • Titleist 818.H2 - 19°, stiff, about 105g shaft.
  • Callaway Apex Pro MB, KBS Tour 6.0 shafts, 3-9I. I swap these out with my Miura Tournament Blades.
  • Edel Driver wedges, 1, 2, and 3 (48°, 54°, 60°), C-Taper shafts.
  • Edel putter, 33".

Loving the 7-wood so far. Hit it on 16 from 218 on Sat, 225 on Sun, from 245 (downwind) on 13 today and they all held the green and resulted in two-putt birdies. That's huge because my hybrid would have had no chance with how firm the greens are.

Project X, Evenflow Black 6.0, 78 grams. I like going a bit softer in my fairway woods.

WITB:

Driver- Ping G400 LST- Ping TOUR x-stiff   This driver has been in the bag for a couple seasons now. Its the best driver I have ever hit.

3-Wood- Srixon F45 15° Kuro Kage x-stiff   This 3 wood has a tiny head, but its the best fairway wood I have carried to date. I still have some two way misses with it so it's days are numbered if I find something I can trust.

3-Hybrid- Callaway Mavrik Pro KBS Tour Proto x-stiff   Put this hybrid in this week and it's awesome. I have hit it probably 50 times on the range this past week and about 15 times on the course. I have yet to miss left which has always been my concern with hybrids. So far this thing has been a fairway machine off the tee.

4-5 Irons- Callaway 2018 X-Forged Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100   Replaced my last set of Callaway blades with these last summer. I went with the X-Forged for my long irons because they launch a little higher, have a slightly larger blade, and are a bit more forgiving.

6-PW- Callaway 2018 APEX MB Chrome Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100  Like I said these replaced another set of Callaway blades. I like these a lot. I did lose about 5 yards per club from my last set to these even though the specs were the same. Not a big deal though as I believe I hit these a bit straighter.

Wedges- Vokey SM7 Jet Black 52°, 56°, and 60°   Thought these looked kind of cool being all black. Had to have all three bent 1°-2° weaker because they went too far when I got them.

Putter- PING Vault 2.0 Ketsch   The little putter that could. Just put a new SuperStroke CLAW grip on it and I like it even better than before.

That's why they make travel bags! And I thought the rental clubs at my course were bad, ours are spectacular compared to that set!
