Just for the record I thought the fans were great and the atmosphere was spot on . I do think it is wrong to have players waving their arms and inciting the crowds , it shows a lack of polish to say the least and a lack of respect for the ethos of the game . The better side won an di doubt any European would not agree with that and i for one am glad that it's a decent contest again.

That's fine, but are you saying Sergio hasn't done this? (BTW, I'm a big Sergio fan and root for him to win in every major because I think he deserves one).

Are you asking if I am serious??

Because proper behavior and decency are self evidently good things to practise and boorishness is not

Perhaps the game is changing in the States but certainly not for better if Weekleys behaviour and the defense of it on this forum is indicative of the situation.

And I disagree. The players are making more money than ever and the ratings are higher than ever. The game is just better now. Why is it not okay for golf to be a stale game? Why can fans not cheer? Why does it need to be like it was when only rich people played?

Then Europeans should practice what they preach or get off of their soap box.

Cheering for your team in a team competition is proper behavior. That's what you do.

please give examples of european players inciting crowds during the play of a hole and i will recant and apologise

I was under the impression we were discussing Boo weekleys inciting the crowds during the course of playing the hole , I have no problem at all with the way the US fans behaved only hios actions

I don't deny that Boo shouldn't have done that. He apologized for it. What's he supposed to do? Whining about it to the press is where Westwood went wrong.

I'm not sure money and ratings are the best ways to judge whether something is better or not.

I don't keep a log lol, but Sergio has done it. Further, Boo only did it once. Lastly, for being from a country that can't have a soccer game without riots, you sure are on a high horse.

+1

It really is that simple.

Agreed, but you can't deny that more people are playing now than ever. More kids are starting young, which means more talent will likely follow. I just don't think the fact that isn't that stale of an environment anymore in the US means we are doing something wrong.

Hmm, not much to say about that statement. Especially after I was the one that got called arrogant!

If it was true, maybe people don't want golf to go the same route?

It would be that simple if he did it numerous times, but to mess up once at his first Ryder Cup in the heat of the moment?? That doesn't make him an improper competitor.

not true, you have given an example but provided no evidence, evidence would be video footage of this happening.

You have to

provide the evidence before it becomes relevant, saying there may be evidence out there, but you haven't got it makes said evidence useless.

You have to

I don't think the only way to incite a crowd is to wave your arms up for cheers after a made putt. That said, I've never seen a European player do that, and Boo had to have known it would come off poorly.

Still, in 2004 Sergio complained about Chris Dimarco's fist pumping and according to Jay Haas, had the nerve to tell Chris to "calm down a little" in the middle of their match. The complaining is getting tiresome. Both sides need to just play a cut each other some slack.
