Ian Poulter

The Ryder Cup was some of the best golf I have ever seen. I've followed the other threads and generally agree that the American team did well and that some rookies (Anthony Kim, Boo Weekly, J. B. Holmes) were superb. Watching AK start to the next hole after he had won the match was fantastic. Talk about being in the moment! But I also want to give props to one of the Europeans. Ian Poulter had a pretty darn good cup, and he had a lot of pressure. Every time I looked up it was Poulter putting to win the hole and he would drain it. I think we may have seen a bit of a break through.

He was a contraversial pick in my opinion. I think many people wouldn't have picked him at all. But I totally agree he was far and away europes best player and deserved to be on the winning side. I would have picked Casey and Clarke before the tournament, purely on form and attitude, but Casey didn't have a good cup at all, and people like Harrington and Weswood didn't look their usual selves. Harrington in particular had a shocker, I think you could forgive him though after winning B2B majors!

After the 2004 Ryder Cup in which Ian Poulter contributed one point to the 18.5 to 9.5 Europe victory, he showed up at the following weeks WGC event (despite the fact that he hadn't qualified for the field) just to distribute custom tees he had made: extra long tees reading "Europe 18.5" and extra short ones reading "USA 9.5". Needless to say American wounds were still raw. I wonder how he would feel if an American player handed him some "special" tees next week. He played fantastic, but as far as him calling out American players as "unprofessional", that's a stretch.

When did he call American players unproffesional? I didn't think they were, I did see Boo Weekley spit on the putting surface which I think he should have been punished for but in all I think they were well compsed.

Poulter did play great... it's just to bad he's an ******* and is so full of himself. As to being an ass.... I won't get into it, but there are many reasons I have this opinion of him and I'm sure there's a few other people on this board who would agree.

Boo is absolutely unprofessional IMO, but actually Poulter was referring to Anthony Kim after he accidentally bumped into I.P. Saturday afternoon. Kim shouldn't have been anywhere near the players, granted, but why run to the press with such trivial matters?

Mr. Eagle, If the matches had a better spirit to them it might have been appreciated, but with both sides so hyper-sensitive and the Europeans constantly pointing out classless American behavior it becomes hard to justify. The question remains, would Poulter appreciate the "unique humor" if Anthony Kim handed out similar tees next week? I guess Tiger is a good heckler ;) I realize my post did not address the topic...Poulter strikes me as the type of guy who will come up big in Ryder Cups, even if his individual career doesn't go to the next level. He doesn't lack confidence so I don't see this Cup performance adding much more.

Oh he's definitely an ass (arse in the UK!) Although I found Boo and J B Holmes to be slightly annoying over the weekend aswell. I think it's because they are like your typical American working class people where as our working class people, which I guess you'd class poulter as, are totally different in attitude. But we love Poulter over here as much as you guys love boo and J B.

As I have posted on previous threads dont believe everything you read in the press. I think Poulter would take any wind ups by the the American players in the right spirit. There are plenty of people this side of the water who think Poulter is an ass,maybe his confidence rubs some people up the wrong way.

They are your typical working class people from the South. Ian Poulter is rather annoying in my opinion. Especially the faces he makes. he tries to look so determined and intense but it just doesn't work for him.

I thought it was Colin Montgomerie who did that (or maybe his tees said something different.)

I take no offense to Poulter's behavior...at least what I've seen of him. He struts around sort of like a peacock and has fun.

There is no denying his greatness after being able to watch his performance at The Open and this Ryder Cup, I'm a believer.

I somewhat enjoy his antics and jest. The game can get mired down in seriousness. It's time someone brings a little spark to things.

The same could be said for Boo's behavior. He was getting the crowd involved and was creating a great atmosphere on the course. It was nice to see cheering and yelling rather than the stiffs with the little quiet golf claps. I don't really mind Poulter either. I'm sure the Euros will take advantage of home field next time and more power to them.

Poulter was nails. Hats off to him.

Poulter is a fine player with a sense of style. When Westwood complained, slightly, about the crowds being ginned up during play on the greens, it was Poulter who said later that the Europenas had done the same thing last time.
