Here's what I want you all to do. Go to the range and pick out the youngest buck you can and watch him. Maybe then you will realize there is a whole nother world outside the your world of 200 yards...

No thanks, and this thread is not about you, despite your best efforts.

It was the 2nd shot on a par 5, that putt was for eagle....we didn't make it. I'm wondering how many greens you hit from 217 out?

Almost none.  How's that for an honest answer?

Don't make a mistake either.  I used to be as low as 9.6, and carried a 10-11 for 15 years.

I don't have to seek out any "young bucks" I see them all the time. The big hitting kid doesn't exist out here. They haven't had hair under their arms long enough to pull off the feats described in this thread. In fact the longest hitters I see tend to be in the 35-45 range. And they have the game to go with the long drives. It's not Mr. can't chip and putt.

Bplewis with all your talk of distance youre probably a "ranger rick"...soo into hitting bombs off the tee yet post a snowman or worse on a straight 415 yard par 4 lmbo Its pretty obvious with your whacky figures that youre new to the game Happy G.

Micah, sometimes you have good posts and sometimes I think I can hear your inner troll clock ticking. Tick. Tick. Tick. I hope you don't turn to the dark side because, well, they're lying, they don't really have cookies.

I see that buck almost every week at the range. And not always the same buck. They ALL swing for the fences and almost always hit them... except it isn't the fence at the end of the range, it's the ones on either side.

I'm not trying to reinforce what Nick said, but my experience is somewhat different than yours. Every time I hear balls hissing out from a stall, it seems to be some kid with good form. I was practicing my half swings working on keys 1 and 2 the other day, hitting okay, I might add. Bunch of seniors one other sub-middle aged man sets up next to me. He is hitting rapidly, and I hear a few shanks. Suddenly, I hear balls hissing. I'm thinking, maybe he's good after all. Then I notice he is getting increasingly frustrated, and see the source of the hissing balls. A high school kid. Funny but true. Seems like its rare for me to see an older person hitting that well on the range. Most of the older good ball strikers are probably on the course.

Get over yourself. Do you have little man syndrome or something?

I'm sure all your fellow 5 foot nothing friends are bombing 350 yard drives. Does that make you feel better? Can you sleep better now?

Never seen any 20+ handicappers hit it 300 yards, sorry.  I'm not saying they don't exist but from March - November I'm at the local range and my home course at least 5 days a week and never had a sighting.

I expect I'll see a unicorn or bigfoot before I see a 20+ handicapper consistently hitting it straight 300 yards but I'll be on the lookout.

So, I saw my first teens that hit miserably. Everyone was hitting badly. I guess usually go at times when the better players practice. I stand corrected. My short 220 yard drives were amongst the longer ones today.

  • 3 years later...

I hit 300 yards every time, no big deal but do I hit it straigh?t ... no way . I joke that my membership only allows me to play in the rough not the mown part  down the middle. I've been playing golf for 6 months and been a member of a club for 3 - my handicap is 26 ( on a good day).

As for hitting 300 yards which is about 270 metres in Australia as we are smart enough to have successfuly converted to metric 40 years ago, well that's easy but I'm not a big young guy, I'm 180cm and 105kg or 5'11 and 240 pounds ... unfit 50 yo lawyer.

I get my speed from my younger days playing A grade cricket where power comes from your hips and timing the club onto the ball , abosolutly nothing to do with your arms , weight or height. My swing speed is 117mph and when I get the smash factor up to 1.5 + I can easily hit 290metres or 230 yards, but rarely straight. When I play with my retired 77 year old neighbor who hits dead straight and only 150 yards , he can regularly beat me on almost any hole . If I do hit it straight 300 metres , I will usually top the second shot or overshoot the put ....and the reality is long drives don't win games , all they are good for is the spectacle from the tee with your mates who WILL beat you with shorter drives and lovely 5, 9 iron and putts .

Yes, they do. Distance is a huge advantage in golf.

You're new to the game. Learn to hit the ball better and your distance will be a huge advantage.

Clicked on this before I realized it was 9 years old! But it's as true a point now as it was back then. Most golfers, guys especially, have a much grander idea of how far they hit the ball than reality would demonstrate!

I'm 64, so I've become resigned to the idea that a 230 yard drive is a big buster for me!

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
