I'm sorry, I just don't understand your distances... My drives have an average carry of 275, kind of like you, and yet the rest of my clubs are going a lot further than yours (i.e. my 3w is carry of 250 on ground, 260 off tee).  So either you're lying about your driver distance, or something is funky with your swing...  Yes I'm using myself as the guideline, but you're hitting the distance of pros with the driver and the rest of your clubs are below them, so IDK...

Is this the range of distances with the same shot? That is, are you trying to make the same shot, but end up hitting this range of distances?

Or are you able to hit any of your clubs within the range of distances depending upon the desired flight?

I was kind of wondering the same thing about the distances, because I hit my irons about one club shorter but driver a lot shorter at 240-ish. We could suppose he is shaping his shots and carries in the range of 170 to 180 with his 6i depending upon the desired shot?

Yes. I've always been able to excel at my drives. Yeah, I do a lot of shot making. I draw it, fade it, etc. unfortunately I still struggle with inconsistencies. Sure, I can hit a 7i yds. But I can consistently hit a well controlled 7i 150-170 and make it do what I want. I'm 6'3 and about 245lbs. A linebacker in the day. No lying necessary here, seems pointless. I swing my irons pretty gently but hit the driver hard. Again, I'm answering what I do consistently, not what I simply CAN do.

Makes sense. The driver is easier to hit well than an iron, at least the ones I use.

I tend to hit my 7i 150 to 160, but 170 is a club longer than I could comfortably swing. Also, I am guessing that your 8i and less are not really "full" swings?

He hits his driver further than me but I hit my PW as far as his 8i. Doesn't make sense to me.

If I stood in a fairway 150yds away, straight and flat with no wind, I could hit PW probably 5/10 times. My short irons I swing very easy. Except for the driver, If I swing like a gorilla all kinds of disaster happens. It's not confusing at all. My weakness is I don't have a Pro swing that has no variations and is a blueprint over and over. However, when I swing gracefully I can correct mistakes and guide a decent shot even if it isn't my best swing. I would like to hit my irons longer consistently and working on getting a video up here and maybe some if you guys can help me out.

I would like to see your swing. Hitting your driver that far, one can assume you have a swing speed of 110+. I posted my distances above and my swing speed is 107 mph avg. If you can't hit 8i 150+, it generally means you have a sub 95 mph swing. Not to mention, you have pretty big gaps in your distances (3w 230 driver 275). Does this make things difficult for you at times?

Absolutely it does. I'll be on a par 3, pretty flat layout, 170yds....get the 7i out and feel a nice swing, flush contact.....20yds over the green. I certainly feel my iron game has huge variances but my driver....same swing..pretty much blueprint. I've actually been on a range with my range finder and found I was consistently hitting my 5i 185-190 yds over and over with a nice little fade. That afternoon I was confident that I'd found the perfect shot for this annoying 186 yd par 3 that favors a fade (I'm left handed). I struck it sweet...felt great....landed 25yds short of the green. My range finder had the pin at 187 to the middle of the green....183 to the front edge. Silly. So yeah....def. struggle with it.

I played the same way for a long time. Hit driver (and fairway woods on occasion) with close to full effort but irons with probably less than 75% effort. With irons my only concern was accuracy and with woods distance was my main objective.

Not saying that's either a good way to play or a bad way to play. That's just what seemed to work best at the time.

I have been working on my swing over the last few winters.  I was flipping the club and I think I finally stopped that.  What a difference, I feel like I am compressing the ball.  Hitting it much purer, hardly feel it hitting the clubface.  I am having great trouble hitting the driver but I will figure that out.  The change messed that up.  I gained a club or more.  I have been looking for hybrids and I think I have finally given up.  I like my long irons, I appear to be one of the few that do (especially with my handicap).  I tend to hook hybrids.  It is a work in progress which makes it scary.  If there is a carry and you are a club down from the prior year it gets your attention.

I don't full swing the 56 and 60.

I did hit a career 3 iron off a tee Saturday 250, it felt good but I am not expecting that next time ;)

nine iron=220 yds

seven iron=280yds

five iron=340yrds

one metal=420yds

I started playing recently so I feel strongly, very strongly that I will improve these shortish distances. I noticed that many of you are a little short. Keep working. Play well.

Apparently, sombody who claims to hit 9-irons 220, 5-irons farther than most tour players can hit driver and professes a +4 handicap, even though he/she just started playing.................     Gotta wonder.........   Patrick????
