Fred Couples is freakishly gifted. Smooth, effortless swing. No golf gloves, ever. I don't know how he plays in Houston or other humid places without gloves. A little more stability in his life and low back would have resulted in more majors.

Worst swing: John Daley. It is 100% timing and flexibility. If his timing is off, very bad results.

Two swings I like are Tom Purtzer's and Steve Elkington's. Two I don't much like are Phil's and Montie's, both of whom have achieved a great deal in the sport (so what do I know?) Remember Palmer's swing? We all know what he did for golf. Just playing around trying to imitate Palmers whirly high finish is difficult. I think Kenny Perry has pretty good mechanics in his swing and he is sneaky long -- but he looks different for sure. Watch how he keeps his hands and club in front of his chest and how he gets extention so early in his swing. Different, yes.

I definitely agree with Purtzer and Elkington. Those are the two swings I think of.

The worst swing has to be Tommy Gainey's. I like Tommy from the Big Break but his swing is not classic. Jim Thorpe's swing is on the hideous side as well.

I donlt think any guy who plays on either PGA or European Tour and wins can be considered as having a 'bad' swing - they can all repeat it consistently and that's the key, however when it comes down to aesthetics :
BEST
Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald
WORST
Kenny Perry, Jeev-Milka Singh, Jim Furyk, Colin Montgomerie, John Daly, JB Holmes, Mike Weir

I dont want to sound like im spoiling the thread but in my opinion, how anybody doesnt pick Tiger as the best swing on tour is beyond me, he is world number 1, hes won the most tournaments, its the most effective swing by a mile! As far as pretty swing goes, then i like swings like Rory McIlroy but its still not "better" than Tiger Woods'... i cant judge on worst swings because i couldnt care less if i swung it like Jeev Milka Singh, if it won me the amount hes won then its all great! but his swing is not the most pretty swing out there by a long shot.

I actually enjoy watching unique swings out there and seeing everybody competing with their own swings, its all about contact/strike.... i agree with people saying kenny perry, JB, jim thorpe have ugly swings but its great to watch them all. i wouldnt class them as "worst" swings though...

Even if all the player's on tour had the same long game swing as Tiger, I'm still fairly confident he'd win the majority of tournaments. It's his putting under pressure and consistent short game that sets him apart from the rest. He has a fairly lowe driving accuracy, but is probably one of the best iron players.

Fred Couples with the best, no doubt. Just looks so smooth. Oddly though, I saw a show on the Golf Channel with Tony Jacklin and his swing looks even smoother... I would love to have seen it when he was younger.

Ugliest to me is John Daly. It's exciting though... but the hands and wrists are just too much.

Elkington has the most classic swing, Ogilvy and Els for most fluid. Best can mean a lot of things I guess.

Worst to me was always Greg Norman - he never seemed fluid - more like he was always p*ssed off at the ball and just way too robotic.

I agree he has a very ugly swing. He seemed to bring the club across his body on his swing while the elbows broke. He wasn't firing that clue out to 2/3 oclock like the good pros do. It was very weird imo

My favorite swing is Geoff Ogilivy's, it just looks so effortless.

The worst and the one I "like" watching the most is Kenny Perry's. I look at it this way, if a man that old and can have a swing that ugly can win on the tour, theyre still hope for me to improve.

You have to give Arnie an honorable mention for one of the most unorthodox

I think the best is Jeff Oligilvy and the worst is JB Holmes. His swing looks so tight and unflexible.

Here is another great swing: Stuart Appleby. I saw him at the practice range at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in 2007, and he played with David Branshaw, from Oswego, NY. Appleby is so smooth and under control, and yet pounds the ball. He shot 68 yesterday.

    • Still should have at least been called… it would have been reviewed and probably upheld as a 5 and 10, but mitigating circumstances might have made it a double-minor.    In other news, the Isles win game four against Tampa to tie the series and guarantee at least one more game in the Coliseum.
    • OK. It’s NBC’s drone camera. Its resolution sucks. Just notice on the wide angle overhead shots. The picture quality is terrible.    Throw in the 4D camera it feels like NBC is using old technology and not keeping up.    OTOH it spent a chunk of money on the Olympics.
    • I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post this in (I debated the thread about putting and why to not accelerate through the ball) or not.   How does one practice the putting stroke slowly? I'm starting to wonder if my issue with speed is a bad putting stroke, and there's something convenient that I'm doing well on the bead drill (the ruler one) fairly consistently.  So I want to do something to check that my stroke itself is okay, and I got mixed results from a drill from Utley's putting book earlier today.   Other than "swing the putter very slowly" ... is that the right thing?
    • I've got that book @billchao...Golf my Way.  And I remember laying my hands on the pages.
    • It’s only a few mm at most, right? Wouldn’t you see more of a difference from changing the kick point in a shaft?
