i've seen TERRIBLE things happen to hard cases: cracks, breaking, opening, etc... they throw your sh** around the airport like you wouldn't believe.

I just took a count (as best my aging memory can recall) of my trips with clubs. They have made 34 trips give or take a couple. All of these have been in the same SKB hard case. Granted, it looks like total crap from all of the skins and scratches, but it hasn't cracked and the locks still work properly.

Maybe I've just been lucky, huh?

If you can do it I would recommend the hard case. I used a soft bag last year on a trip to Hawaii and I ended up with a broken 3 wood shaft, a bent Club Glove protection pole and a bag that looks like a dog had it's way with it.

The hard cases are heavy. Even when rolling it the bags wears on you. That's the reason I used a soft bag because I had so many other things to carry.

Aside from the weight the only problem I have with my SKB hard case is the size. Since you can't make it smaller you need to get a car with enough space to take it with you. Especially if you travel with more than 2 people.

I purchased the hard case after I was seated on the window seat on a plane and I looked out to see the luggage handlers just throwing golf club travel bags onto the plane.

Count one more here for the SKB hard case. It does take a beating, but I've never had an issue with club damage.
