Jack, I think in his day with the same equipment he would be the better player, but not by much.

I have seen a lot of them both. There are similarities in that each was the odds on favorite everytime they tee'd it up in a major. They both hit it so far in his day, and they both made every single putt that they had to make.

I'm going to say that Nicklaus had more great players to beat, Palmer, Trevino, Watson, Player, Casper, etc. Tiger has a deeper field each week.

Nicklaus won majors from 1963 til 1986. Set scoring records on a regular basis.

Tiger has done some things that just amaze me! '97 Masters, 2000 US Open, Grand Slam (4 in a row is a grand slam!). Then playing 91 holes with a shredded knee and stress fracture and winning the US Open last year!!

If he is able to come back from his injury and stay healthy, there is no reason to think that he won't win 25-30 majors and 100 tournaments.

Tiger might be the most incredible sports figure of all time!

Jack had tougher compettion and won 18 majors but even more unbeliveable he finished second something like 15 times!!

just last week when jack was visiting the broadcast booth (with johnny miller i believe) jack said (and i am paraphrasing) "its more difficult to win now, the fields are much deeper. back then, there were only a few players who figured to have a reasonable chance of winning each week".

and i agree. athletes get better in all sports. runners run faster, swimmers swim faster. every olympics, records fall like crazy. why should golf be any different? athletes are bigger, stronger ,faster, better trained, and more dedicated, and theres more of them. end of story. end of thread! : )

no jack was being modest, another reason we love him

I noticed Tiger was walking at least 50 steps behind his caddie this past weekend during the tournament at Doral. I also noticed Tiger's last look before he putts was a blink, not the stare he usually gives.

Now I know this could be rust from being out 8 months and his knee needs to become acclimated to tournament play. However, I think his left knee will be his "Achilles heel" from here on end.

Just like in Homer's "The Iliad", one of the young guns nipping at Tiger's "heels" may play the role of Paris and strike down this golfing god we call Tiger Woods.

I'll take that bet.

Tiger hurt his right ankle. It was sore all week. And he said he's not used to walking 18 holes just yet.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Those young guns snapping at Tiger's heels, and there are many, have got their work cut out for them - and they know it. Watching a Tiger drive in slow motion yesterday (or was it Sat?), it seems that he is swinging freely and has no left knee/leg issues to compensate for - hallelujah! There was talk not long ago of him possibly having to keep his left knee bent a bit in the snap but I didn't see that happening - did anyone else? Same snap, same leg/body action, same length. This is why he's so happy with his current situation, overall. He was stress-testing his body post-op and it looks like it's in good shape, other than his match fitness which of course he will rapidly recover. He still has the rusted putter issue to contend with but I'd put my money on him for the majors this year - despite the long hiatus. He's already proved how tough-minded he is (U.S. Open), now he has to prove to himself how quickly he can fully recover his touch around and on the green.

It's gonna be a great golfing year thank goodness. Imagine if Tiger had discovered he could only put 85% power into his drives - ugh.

I'm going to go with tiger! But that’s only because of what I hear...Let me explain. I never really watched golf or played. I was really in to competitive Paintball I would play Paintball Tournaments all around the US but every once and a while I would go to the range with my brother he's been playing for 3 years. One day my brother had a tee time with my cousin but he couldn't make it so he gave me his clubs and asked me to fill in for him. After that day of golf I put all my paintball equipment up for sale made about 2k then bought all golf equipment. I never really thought I would be in to golf but I must say BEST SPORT EVER!!!!!! Maybe in a year after really starting to understand the game and learning the players I can give an objective answer. As for right now I’ll go with TIGER!!!

Raw skill I'd say Jack, just because the didn't have the technology Tiger does, however perseverance and poise Tiger all the way.

Tiger would beat Jack anyways though .

I think Tiger is better than Jack. I also believe he is right up with Michael Jordan for greatest athlete off all time. Lee Trevino battled Jack a lot, and he thinks Tiger is better, so I trust Trevino's eye more than mine.

    • I always get adds for "Find your Eastern European Soulmate" I think it's a nifty gadget to have at home. If your going to do a dedicated putting session I could see setting it up. Thanks for sharing.
    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
