Now I have a problem that when my driver swing gets off I come in way too steep on the ball, making me balloon it into the wind and getting about 3 yards of roll off of my drive.

I have an FT-5 with Graffaloy Prolaunch platinum Stiff 9.5. And from my understanding the FT-5 is a fairly high spin driver. I wanted to know if any of you had ideas of what new Low spin drivers are out on the market.

Or maybe a good shaft change that would help decrease spin.

My swing speed is probably around 105. 8 iron distance 150.

If that helps.
Thanks for any replies.

Id take that in a second. When i baloon my driver it spins back 2-3 feet i have no idea how it happen. As for recomendations on heads you could try the 909D3. Or for shafts maybe a UST V2.

I think you should change your swing or modify it. I have had the same issue. I play the ball pretty far forward and tee it high and really focus on hitting up on it. If you do not create the right launch conditions no driver will not spin too much.

I have the same problem with my driver going way too high and landing with almost no roll, I'm pretty sure I hit it higher than my 3 wood sometimes. I've been looking for a low spin driver for a while now, check out the Titleist 905S. Its a little smaller than your current driver at 400cc, but still plenty big IMHO.

I haven't gotten a chance to hit one yet, but it sounds like it should work. I've been searching locally for a used one without much luck. I'm thinking about just getting one off ebay to try out.

If your truly looking for a low spin head, check out the long drive component companies (Krank, Geek, All out golf, Smt) they all make there long drive heads in normal lofts and they are lower spin than factory clubs.

Im not as schooled on this subjuct as others Im sure...but I think you can control spin more with shafts than clubheads. May want to look into a stiffer shaft. That will help with traj. and spin.

I would look at the way you are hitting it and not what you are hitting. Me and my buddy play together. He is an ex baseball player, plays an R7 9.5 stiff speed about 110 but because he tees the ball low and back he puts alot of spin. Only carries it about 250. I have a swing speed at right at 100 and use my old old driver with a wippy shaft. I have worked hard on launching it high with low spin. I can many times a round get him by 20 just because my launch conditions are so much better even though he is much more athletic and has a higher swing speed.

I agree its best to fix a swing flaw and hit it pure every time. However, he's a 5 handicap so I'd assume his swing is already quite solid. Since he didn't say he hits it with too much spin all the time, I think it would be smart to get a new lower spin driver that doesn't exaggerate his most common mishit, especially with the selection available today. No sense in using a club that takes your most common mistake and makes it worse.

I have 4000RPM with my Burner - standard 49g 47inch stiff shaft

And with an R9 (with Prolaunch Platinum 65g 45 inch stiff shaft) i was knocking out 2200RPM.

Awesome driver. Not sure if it was the head that made a diff - but the shaft certainly helped lower the spin rate.

    • Day 79 (19 July 25) - Band rehearsal this morning - got home midafternoon, opted to work more with the magnetic alignment tool with the wedges.  Used it to work on face position at the bottom of the swing arc - followed up with easy pitches up to 50yds.  Seeing better face control and over improved accuracy toward target…session was cut short with pop up rain showers.
    • This is a great discussion. Other parts of the course where there are houses have white stakes and signs. This keeps people from trespassing and hitting shots on their property. There is another county road on the east side of the course that does not have white stakes like the hole I described. I checked the score card and there is nothing to indicate these roadways are OB. I think a county drainage ditch would be considered government right-of-way so it is the peoples land 🤣. But you are in the power industry and know more about those sorts of things than me.
    • Day 3: Worked on backswing. Feel: Matt Wolff, Real: Not yanking it inside and getting it laid off and flat at the top.
    • I wrote the post before leaders tee'd off today (3rd round) when Schef was still tied with Fitz at -10. Also, if you read further I also said 'one man' will most probably put the championship to sleep by end of today..😊. Yeah, not much drama left it seems. Scheffler with a hot putter is out right frustrating for the field. I will still watch tomorrow because the course is awesome and the play is pretty exciting in general. Players reaching deep to hang on.
