Michelle Wie shot an ace today. She's still +1 when the leader is -10. I think she needs to bake a little longer, but is going to be a force before long.

For the record, I would also dance around the tee box like a young girl if I got a hole in one.

A missed putt there, a tugged drive here, she's not far from breaking through.

Exactly right. At 16 years old at the Kraft Nabisco she caught and passed Lorena Ochoa during the final round and stood tied for the lead with Natalie Gulbis on the 18th tee. But, first Karrie Webb holed her shot from the fairway for eagle to go up one up. Then Ochoa holed her putt on 18 for eagle to tie Webb, while Michele took three to get down from the fringe for a par to miss the ensuing playoff by one (as did Gulbis).

Her swing is so powerful and fluid. With her talent, I think it's only a matter of time for Michelle. I think she just has to work on some of her decision making and her clutch putting.

Down goes Creamer! Down goes Gulbis!

Wei absolutely SMOKES those two. No wonder they want her to be the face of the LPGA.

...I definitely like watching her swing.

+1 - extremely nice swing. I'm sure a lotta people (men and women alike) would love to have that kind of swing arch.

Plus - she's a dime the way LPGA standards go

i cannot stand michelle wie. i mean, who does she think she is? she wants to play on men's tournaments and can't beat the women. hell, she couldn't even win my saturday foursome, and we're far from the pga tour.

unless i'm somehow mistaken, the ladies tees are quite a bit closer than the men's tees. we all hit well over 300, and from what i hear she hits around 270 or so. if she wants to play with men, we play from the back tees and our best scorer is usually just under or at par. so no, i do not believe she would be able to win my saturday foursome.

Care to make it interesting?

FWIW - I believe I saw her bust a 5w about 250 over the weekend soooo I'm sure her drives could top 300.

Well then maybe you have a point. After all, Michelle Wie finished at -1 just like the winning score in your foursome. After 72 holes. On a 6,641 yard course. In competition. So yea, good luck with that.

senorchipotle poses an interesting query. Just by looking at last week's course, the ladies basically play from the Blue tees (bout 6800 yds) with a slope of 139. I think Michelle would lick the majority of regular amateurs based off that alone.

Clearly he's just lying about his handicap. He's really a +3.

She would kick my ass.....

Unless I'm calculating incorrectly, Wie would beat a 10 handicap on that course by, oh, about... 14 strokes.

Per day.

Senorchipotle statement reminds me of that golf commercial where the guy is standing on the 18th tee and says he needs birdie to tie Tigers' round and his buddy asks him if Tiger shot a 98. He of course turns to his buddy and states something to the effect of "Look at my handicap" and then goes on to top his drive. So maybe that's what he meant when he said that Michelle Wie would wither on the vine next to all the 300+ yard drives his group hits.

You know, I was never was a fan of her's until this thread. Everytime I see her competing in a tournament on TV I will think how lucky she is not to have to face certain doom at the hands of Senorchipotle's Saturday foresome.

You have got to be kidding.

With all due respect, i dont think there are many male ametuers of any caliber than are going to beat Michelle Wie in a 18 hole match. She's still a professional golfer. She might shoot 75 and give her opponent a chance, but she might also shoot 63 or something, which even many male PGA pros dont do that often.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
