I hate to ride the Tiger bandwagon... but look at the things going for him... Defending champion... won at Bethpage in 2002, driving the ball very well... I'm gonna say Tiger... but he won't finish 9-under... I think he'll shoot anywhere between 278 and 282 and win... with the course playing very long (and waterlogged) that takes most of the shorter hitters out... it will be a war of attriction but in the end (maybe Tuesday)... Tiger will walk away with the silver cup... again a lot of rain...

With this much rain, it seems like that guys like Brian Gay will have to work really hard just to make the cut. Brian Gay will probably only drive 235 yards or so in these conditions. It seems like this week really belongs to the long hitters, like Tiger Woods, because of all this rain. Indeed, it'll be an interesting Open...

With the slop and delays facing the players now, it is clear that the talk of 9-under-par and championship scoring records can be thrown out the window. Anyone who wants to win this tournament will have to be long and able to grind out some strings of pars in the bad conditions. As predictable as it may be, the variables are all working in Tiger's favor. The last two times the Open was plagued with bad weather in the early rounds (here in 2002 and Pebble in 2000), he ran away with the title.

I am not quite sure, but didn't he do terrible in the 03 British Open in the rain. He shot like an 81 right? Or am I totally imagining this?

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

It was 2002 at Muirfield, and the cause of Tiger's bad round was not the rain, but the 50 miles-per-hour gusts that came with it. If the wind doesn't become a factor, Tiger's now the odds-on favorite.

Unless I missed someone, opening day did not see a score better than par on number 7 (525 yards, par 4).

Let's see how Ricky Barnes and the other guys who scored low in the second wave do when the USGA doesn't have to provide a generous setup for the players who had to play two rounds in a monsoon.

#1 it is not monsooning today it is really pretty nice considering.I live 8 minutes from the course and I mowed my lawn today so they have no bitches TODAY.As for the course setup you are not supposed to be able to hit the 15th green from the rough.Even when they play the NY open they can not do it but I am seeing everbody doing it from either side which tells me Mr davis did not do his homework. They will make double digits and next year they will make it way to hard.As far as a certain Mr Woods getting a bad break in the start times may I point out he had a early morning start for another major which I feel is usually the better time but this time it was not so tough it out.
