With my last set of 09 Burners, I thought I was a pro.  I could swing like a gorilla and carry a wedge 135-140 pretty consistently.  Of course no one told me the wedge wasn't actually a wedge.  Now I've got Nike VR Pro irons and my carry distances are:

Driver  - been a long time since i could hit it properly, not sure

5wood - 210

4 iron - 190

5 iron - 180

6 iron - 170

7 iron - 160

8 iron - 150

9 iron - 140

PW - 120

GW(52) - 105

SW(56) - 90

LW(60) - 75

In my bag

Driver:      SLDR 10.5*

Irons:       NikeVR PRO 4-PW

Wedges:   Nike VR Pro 50* 54* 58*

Average distances (yards) with a controlled swing and decent contact -

Driver: 210 (work in progress)

3 Wood: 210

5 Wood: 190

4 Hybrid: 180

5 Iron: 160

6 Iron: 150

7 Iron: 140

8 Iron: 130

9 Iron: 120

PW: 110

GW: 100

LW: ?

I'm not (too) embarrassed or bothered of my lack of distance, but I think I can and should learn to get another 10-20 from my driver. Also, there's a gap of 20 yards between my 4 hybrid and my 5 iron. This can cause problems on a couple of the holes I play. Don't know whether to fill in the gap with 5 hybrid or try to get a bit more distance from my irons. I can easily add another 10 yards on each iron if I hit with a flatter trajectory but I prefer the higher shots. Hell, at my skill level I'm just happy that my distances are somewhat predictable.

This is where I'm at currently (RBZ woods, BurnerPlus irons) but I am looking at upgrading my irons to the AP1's. Yesterday I was hitting the vokey 58* 100 yds and the ap1 6i nearly 170 yds (when hit well). Lighter/shorter shafts....so obviously I'm gonna have to re-gap from the ground up. I also play with somebody who is about 10 yards longer than me for every iron, and hits his driver at least 330 consistently. Definitely the longest player I've ever played with.

First of all: I'd love to lose length to gain aim :) Driver: ~265 yards 4w: ~235 yards 1i: ~230 yards (off the tee only) 3i: ~210 yards 4i: ~195 yards 5i: ~185 yards 6i: ~174 yards 7i: ~161 yards 8i: ~148 yards 9i: ~135 yards W (48*): 120 yards SW (56*): 90 yards LW (60*): 75 yards And I'm considered a long(ish) hitter. :) Also: I have a very old driver, if I swing all out it'll go further (295 yards isn't an exception), but I lose a lot of fairways in regulation then.

Driver - So far that you wouldn't want your wife to see me hit it. 3+ Wood - You'd get tired and have to sit down while walking to my ball. 1 Iron - Wooden tees catch fire like match heads even when I lay off. 2 Iron - If you look at the ground after I hit, you can find the little plastic letters and numbers from the ball. 3 Iron - Used this when I hit my 182nd hole in one yesterday, par 6, 783 yards, back pin, head wind screaming like a flaming eagle. 4 Iron - I swung this and a guy eating lunch shit himself. 5 Iron - Not very far (340-360) because I removed the grip and shaft so I can just swing the club head in my palm. 6 Iron - I once swung hard and hit a ball back in time. 7 Iron - If the zombie apocalypse broke out, all I'd need is a 7 iron and a bucket of balls - BOOM HEAD SHOT. 8 Iron - I can hit it on the green of any local course - from the pavement of my driveway. 9 Iron - Had my 9 iron bent to 180* so I could play left and right handed at the same time. PW - 289, every single time. 2-8-9. GW - 279, every single time, 2-7-9 SW - I swing in the trap and diamonds come flying out 84* - 150 with 1/10th swing (all I every need) Putter - I can beat you with only my putter in my bag (and a telescoping ball retriever so we can fetch your mishits). Umbrella - 120 Yards. Basically, on the par 3's, I'm 84*, maybe putter.  Par 4's, 7 Iron, Putter,  Par 5's, 5 Iron, umbrella, putter. I'd go on the tour but I'm too busy posting my numbers on the internet to play.

Not sure if people are listing averages or their best shot ever, these are my averages.

Driver 190

5W    180

3W    180

6i       150

7i       140

8i       130

9i       115

PW    105

GW    don't know

SW    1/2 distance I needed to get out bunker

I didn't realize (aside from driver) that I was such a slouch on distance.  I blame my clubs a little they aren't great but I suppose my swing needs some work too.

We're about the same. The way I figure, it is what it is and lying about it isn't going change it. All I can do is try to improve. I like your SW distance.

Thanks for your honesty, now I feel better.  I too and not a big distance hitter.  I just concentrate on my "old mans golf" method of getting it straight down the fairway and staying out of trouble.

Driver                225

Hybrid 3 18deg  190

Hybrid 4 21deg  180

5 I                    165

6 I                    155

7 I                    145

8 I                    135

9 I                    125

PW                  115

Gap 52             100

Sand 56             75

Lob 60               50

Wedges are so variable you can get all kinds of distances  when you de-loft them.

Hit them straight and seldom!

Everyone has it all messed up.

You are supposed to be able to lie in this thread, just not the other. Quite a few have confused the two.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
