I notice that both of you have different make wedges & irons. The way I found to bridge the gap was to have the same make/model for the whole set, keeping consistancy. I have MX100 irons 4-SW & 50* MX series gap wedge. I don't carry a lob wedge yet, but I will get the MX series LW when I do.

Ive been looking for an AW in my irons set but they are kinda rare and usually expensive. As to someone elses comment about pushing 3/4 shots to the right: you are probably decelerating. Thats a pretty common malfunction for the 3/4 swing where it comes out right.

My distances has crept up 5 to 10 yards the past couple weeks as I've improved my ball striking. I still will rarely go for the green with I'm more than 170 yards out. I'll just lay up. I just broke 100 for the 1st time in my 2 summers of playing this past Saturday! lol

You already appear to have an AW (GW) in your signature, the 52* Cleveland?

I think he's looking for the matched set.

I've never tried hitting my clubs, though it's an interesting concept. I much prefer to hit balls. I find them much more aerodynamically suitable.

Although lately I've been hitting the GW 135 and the PW 140 . Leaves me far too many tweener approaches where I'm left stretching SW or getting too fancy wth the GW.

I'm gonna blow some minds!

I will dethrone you as the "shortest" hitter on tst. This isnt how far i hit them more like when i use them distance wise. 3w 200+ 4i 180-190 5i 160-175 6i 145-155 7i 130-140 8i 115-125 9i 100+-110 W 90+-100 over lofted 9 iron 80 - in I like these distances because i know what to hit and i can keep my swing the same. Whats the point of hitting a 9 iron 165 yards and a wedge a 100 thats quite a distance gap.

How does anyone hit a 60 degree lob wedge 100 yards?

Do you de-loft the club to hit it that far? If so, whats the point, why not just hit a longer club?

i find it hard to believe that so many here have posted 100 yard lob wedges too. however, it is possible. my ex father in law would de-loft the crap out of his irons. he would practically play the ball off of his back foot. nothing went higher than 30 feet off the ground, but they sure went far, lol. personally, id rather hit a high arcing shot so the ball lands softer. but thats just me.

I hit mine at around 95 yards and hit it high. "de-lofting" is naturally occurring in a good golf swing. The degrees of loft is measured when the shaft is straight up and down, while you are supposed to make contact with the ball with your hands out in front of the club head.

Good point. There is a lot of accusations that only Tiger etc hits his 6i 200yards and everyone on here is lying. But as you say if you hit the ball properly with your hands in front of the club those distances are not unreasonable.

I play with a mate who's built like Camillo Vilegas but he only hits his 6i about 170, i hit my 6i 190-200 because i transfer my weight a lot better than my mate does.

hitting a lob wedge 100 yards isn't hard now one thing to take in effect is mine is like 15 years old not used a lot though so less spin on it means more distance to an effect cause the faces and groves of today wedges make them shorter

Mine is 130 ...deloft yes. back in stance unless its high in the rough then i move it to middle or forward. at 130 yards it still towers in the air and sticks a green after a bounce.

any further than 130 and i use a pw .

D-240-270 carry, little to no roll on the 270, cause they go high. I should've got a lower loft
3W-230 with roll, don't know how much carry, never measured
5W-210 with roll, """""
3H-Around 200 210-190, depends on the lie.
4I- 175
5I- 165
6I- 160

8I- 125
9I- 120
PW- 115
SW- Never full swing it, but around 50 on a half swing
60LW- 50

I'm not too good with the irons, mainly because I hit everything a little thicker then I'd like.

Today I was on a par 3 that was exactly 195 to the pin (I shot it with my RF). I played this hole twice today and hit 2 the second time around. The first time I hit a 7 iron and it landed on the back fringe and spun back 2 feet and was still on the fringe at about 205 yards. The second time I played the hole I decided to hit an 8 iron. I mishit it and came up 10 yards short of the pin. I hit another with the 8 iron and hit that one into the back left trap at around 205 yards. So I guess I hit my 7 205yards and my 8 also 205, but only when struck well....

Oh yea, I forgot to mention The wend was blowing about 15-20MPH downwind

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
