I'm a high handicap, I'm working on breaking 100 this summer. My driver is my best club. 250yds, really strait to a slight fade.

Early the summer I had a severe slice with driver.. I straitened it out by strengthening my grip, holding the club with my fingers, and swinging softer.

Now the next club I want to work on are my irons. I cannot hit them consistantly. Top, fat, shanks in either direction... I play mind games with myself on almost every shot. Here are my specific questions.

To hit my irons, I seem to have to do the following. I weakin my grip for each lower club. For example, I try to swing 4 iron with the same strong grip as driver, but the 9 and PW i am nuetral. I also feel like I have to grip the club more with my palms and squeeze harder for anything good to happen...

What the hell is going on? Is it acceptable to change grips for each club as this doesn't seem right to me. Links to good youtube video's or whatever would help.

I realize a lesson is the best solution, but it is not an option right now, hopefully you guys can help.

Try You Tube and search(swing like Tiger Woods) and you will see legs of a golfer in gray pants, its an excellent step by step fundamental of the basic golf swing including grips, posture, alignment that might be helpful to you.

answer this question then...

Does anyone here have different grips for different clubs? or is it just me, and should I stop doing that.

Nope, I personally use a neutral grip for everything. If you think about it, the less you have to change for each shot, the easier it is to repeat each shot. Does that make sense?

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
