I hate how one week I can feel so good holding a club... and the next week, it feels like an alien object. Perfect example is my 3 wood. I NEVER know if I'm going to hit it 240 or 180 off the tee from week to week.

Gotta find a happy-medium.

I make stupid little mistakes that get me frustrated on the course. Stuff I know I can do well, but somehow manage to screw up.

I hate how much traffic there is around here and how crowded the courses are. When I was living in CT, I could decide I wanted to golf and tee off within 10 minutes. Here, it's an ordeal. And it makes me golf less often, because I know it's going to take longer than I plan for. Well, at least it doesn't rain in California.

Good thread thanks!

I wanted to play a round today, got a free spot but had to stop after the third hole because I was sooo bad. I went to the range instead.

What totally p****s me off, is that I have to totally start over after not touching a club for 6 (six!) days(!).
It took me 50 balls on the range to hit the first good shot.

1) When I take a full swing with the LW in deepish grass and the ******* clubhead goes clean under the ball with no contact and almost no perceptible movement.

Add that to my list.

I love my LW, but since it's such a high loft there's really very little vertical space with which to strike the ball. I particularly hate moving the ball 5 yards when I wanted to move it 20.

I have been terrible off the tee the past month and quite good with my irons and serviceable with the putter. I've been telling myself that the scores are sure to tumble if I can keep it in play off the tee.

Yesterday I hit it well off the tee - 6 of 9 fairways. My irons turned to rubbish and my putting was abominable - 6x3 putts on 9 holes! Ended up with my worst score in over a year. The putter just about ended up bent over the knee Very frustrating to achieve one goal and have the rest of my game fall apart.

What would YOU expect to shoot with.... 41 putts!!? {gasp!}

Well, I shot 82.

I just couldn't believe it. I had a spat of bad putting like this in March, but since then I've been putting in 30-34 strokes per round, then THIS happens.

The timing wasn't great either, as I was playing a third-round match in my club's match play tournament. I lost, 2&1. If I had "simply" 2-putted on the 5 greens where I 3-putted, I could have won, 4&3. UGH!

Is Friday afternoon when all the hackers and slow players play? I happen to have Friday off, it was a great day to golf, especially for the end of July in the midwest. Had a 2:00 pm tee time, at least 2 groups had to have someone driven out the them because one of the groups couldn't get there on time.

The 5th and 6th holes are par 5's that run side by side in opposite directions. We waited on the tee box on 5 while the group ahead of us was in the fairway, the group ahead of them was on 6 green. Within 5 holes they were a hole and a half behind.

I hate how one round I can be automatic with my hybrids. Straight shots, nice, easy swing, good loft and distance. Then not 5 days later I'm hooking everything, losing 10-15 yards and having very little trajectory. I usually tee off using my 3 hybrid no matter what the first hole is. It gets my swing going, usually is little risk, and I'm in the fairway. Yesterday, it was bad. I hooked my opening tee shot into some trees. Second tee shot, hooked it left into the rough when I wanted to be on right side of fairway. Fortunately, my driver was working pretty good and if I didn't need driver I just hit my 5 iron. The hybrids are such nice clubs but they can really bend you over the barrell sometimes.

Oh and putting. I'm a horrible putter. Last 5 rounds I've had no better than 36 putts and even had a 48 putt round. I'm trying to eliminate 3 putts, I think it's the worst way to ruin a score, so of course I go out and have a 4 putt! I am trying a new stance and stroke, we'll see if it helps. Looking at my Scorecard stats, if I can eliminate 3 putts, I'd be in the 80s every time. Really frustrating.

and it goes on...

rollercoaster golf. Playing really good for a couple of holes, birdies included.
Then suddenly all is gone. Hole 10, I skyrocketed my tee shot, then hooked the second shot OB, next shot pushed to other fairway and it bounced between two old ladies after 200yds carry.

..then I went home

good lord, I couldn't hit my driver to save my life today. Normally I hit a high draw. Lately it's progressed to a power hook and today it was a low slice. WTF?

No such thing as break!

You are just struggling off the tee. Hit 60% driver and I bet it will go further than a 90% 4-iron.

My short game is worse than a 90 year old woman's right now.

To top it off I was hitting some awesome drives today, so I left myself within 30 yards of the green a couple times on par 4's. But since my short game sucks miserabely right now, I'm making pars/bogeys when I should be having a great shot at birdie. I can't count how many times I left myself 20 ft. from the hole today on a chip/pitch from less than 30 yards.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
