You can also download the app for your phone or tablet.  Highly recommended.

I haven't seen an app for the handicap manual, only for the rules.  Have I missed it?

It’s all the way at the bottom of the rules page on the app

It just loads a web view of the handicap rules site.

I understand that you MAY post these rounds, but can someone please explain WHY you would post a round for handicap with the assumption that you have played the last 5 holes in nett par?

The only thing it can possibly do is contribute to a vanity handicap.

In no way does 13 holes approximate  a full round of golf, so what is the point of pretending to have played 5 holes to your handicap when you haven't? Just call it 13 holes of golf. I can understand that there may be occasions when a whole field has their round counted and estimated due to thunderstorms or something in a shotgun start, but to me it would seem crazy to play 17 holes and then just give myself a nett par on 18, let alone 30% of the holes.

And as for match play rounds with concessions.....come on! Really?

Why?  Because if you play within the USGA system, those are the rules.  All rules have to draw some kind of arbitrary lines, and that is where the USGA has chosen to draw the line in these situations.  With the principles that the USGA uses for its handicap, to choose NOT to post these scores could amount to sandbagging.  Either way, to choose not to follow the rules is to intentionally manipulate your handicap, and I think we can all agree that handicap manipulation is wrong.

I understand that if you're in the CONGU system, or some of the other handicap systems around the world, the idea of posting match play rounds, or incomplete rounds, seems wrong.  Its wrong to you only because you've been in a system where the "lines" have been drawn in different places.

To add slightly to @DaveP043‘s response, a concession of the hole does not mean concession of your score.  You post the score that you would have most likely achieved.  A tap in conceded, count it.  A 20 foot putt conceded, add 2 strokes.

Subject to your maximum score for the hole under Equitable Stroke Control.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
