Before i even begin, i don't want to dis-respect anyone with my post. Its an honest question.....

I have been playing golf for 2 months now. I am completely addicted and have been to either the driving range, practice green, chipping in my yard, or playing rounds basically everyday. 3 of the courses around me already know me by name. My point is that the first round i played, i shot a 113 on a par 70. A common beginner score.

After that i chipped in my yard and visted the driving range for the next 2 weeks basically everyday. I would say 5 days a week is more like it. Next time i played at the same course, i dropped all the way down to a 89. That was about a month ago. Today i played 36 holes, on the first 18 i shot a 80. 2nd 18 i shot a 72.

I've been keeping track of my scores on discks sporting good's website and according to their handicap tracker, i am considered a 9.6 handicap! This comming only after 2 months of dedicated playing. Im truely exicted but is this too good to be true? ( i am sure i entered all the course and round info correctly into disk's database)

I'm skeptical (about the 2 months) and somewhat envious (though I think part of the fun is traveling the road to get there).

I know some good golfers (they hit good golf shots) and their "scores" are lower than mine, but I don't take them seriously because they don't play by the rules (rolling their ball, playing out of bound shots by taking drops where they went out, not putting out, etc.) On paper they look like 10-12 handicaps but play with them once and a serious golfer would see why.

Please understand, this not directed at you specifically, but sometimes the truth behind the claims really have a tarnished finish on it.

Great job and if everything is true and pure, you may have an exciting career ahead of you.

I know some single-digit handicappers (or so they say) that can't hit a great shot to save their life. They muddle through with a decent weekend-golfer's game, but they will never be any better. Their swings are almost universally poor, but they compensate for it with a whole host of bandaids, which are not consistent and which they can easily lose.

I haven't seen your game and I am not doubting your claim, but the truth is that a fundamentally sound swing that will last a lifetime and allow for a consistently improving game does not come in two months. If you had that kind of swing after only a few short weeks, you could be headed to the pros.

113 to 72 in two months? that is amazing and i'm quite jealous.

That seems unlikely but I guess it could happen. It takes a pretty solid game to shoot two over. After you get 20 or so scores posted, that will be a true gauge of your handicap. It will show low now because you probably don't have many rounds posted and the scores are low. If you can shoot those scores consistently, then that is pretty amazing IMO.

congrats. I'm not that good, but I was playing pretty well for starting last season. I haven't updated my handicap but I think it's more like a 3-4 right now (having 8 scores under +8, mostly +2-4. I'm afraid to put in all my scores because the past 2 rounds I've played have been +12 and +13. However, I am very surprised that you hit a 72 so soon. You must spend a lot of time on the course to pull off that consistency already. Congrats again!

How old are you? You seriously might have some special talent to be able to go really far in this game...You should start playing in some tournaments and see how you do.

If true, one in a million or so. If not, well, poor you.

Nice!! I agree though, you need a few more scores in the system to really tell what your handicap is. If it stays right there, you seriously need to take some lessons and think about playing in a few tournaments. Start looking at "Q-School" and the Nationwide Tour. Congrats on a great start though!!

Was it Arnold Palmer that once said " I have a tip that can take 5 strokes off anyone's golf game. It's called an eraser "? I've seen some rapid progress by some new players, but yours takes the biscuit.

No disresepct here, but I've also seen a lot of guys post fictitious scores, just so they can feel like 'one of the boys' - if you do this, your handicap will be single digit in a heartbeat.

If you have gotten where you say you are legitamately, then kudos to you. On the other hand, if you've turned to the dark side to get there, then sooner or later you'll come unstuck and you'll lose respect.

I hope for you it's legitimate...

I don't want to call foul... I am just interested in getting a little more background information...

1. Are you coming over from another sport? For example, I recently played with a college baseball player who very quickly got down into the 70's after learning to chip and putt. You could see the raw athleticism and natural aptitude for swinging a club.

2. Did you seek out any instruction? Reading books/articles, watching Youtube videos, etc? Or did you just pick up a club and start swinging?

3. What are the course/slope ratings and yardages where you play?

4. Have any video of your swing? I'd especially like to see your swing 2 months ago vs. today.

EDIT: One more very important question... If you hit your ball out of play into the woods and you can't find it, what do you do?

great job... some guys just have "it" and some guys dont... i wish i could spend that much time on my game
