Sorry! ;)

Oh, and I forgot to mention: 1) Anyone who chooses to wear pants to play in Dallas in the summer and is not required to by the rules of a tournament they are playing in would likely be considered crazy. When it's 102, with a heat index of 106, pants seems to be stupid when shorts are an option. 2) I don't see anything wrong with a brush. I have a small one that I have on my bag. After a shot, I'll wipe it with my towel, but take the brush to it if the towel doesn't get the grooves clean. Easily accesible, takes literally 5 seconds to cleans out the grooves, and it's done. 3) I generally start with iron covers on for protection while in my trunk, and riding on the cart etc. As I pull a club (iron or wedge) during a round, I'll usually stick the cover in one of my bag pockets so I don't have to constantly put them on and take them off. Sometimes, I'll try to keep every other club (more or less) covered so if I hit a bump (or 2, or 10) on the cart there might be a touch more protection. If I'm walking, I don't think the iron covers are as important because they get jarred less. While you do bang clubs around, I don't see the need to subject fairly expensive items to anymore potential beating than necessary. Just my opinions of course.

None of these things would bother me because golf is a mental thing and if they think it makes them play better good for them. What I can't stand is the foursome of guys all dressed like the pros, doing the pros routine and shooting about 120. I played 9 with a guy last week who's entire routine was move for move tigers and plus the decked out nike outfit with nike clubs. Normally I have no problem with this except he shot over 60.

Also whenever he hit a good approach shot he'd yell out "be the club today"

Damp towel.

Doesn't clean the grooves out, which is why I carry a brush.

I have a frogger towel, and it's just not the same.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

In my bag todayâ¦.

So you're saying high handicappers have no right to be attached to brands or shouldn't follow how pro players play on TV? Is it because they have money to spend? Should they act or dress a certain way to indicate they are not good? Just trying to get the reasoning. The way I see it, plenty of people buy gear and clothing and emulate ways their favorite pro players of any sport they see on TV. If a pro is using or wearing it, it must be a good endorsement. The issue shouldn't be if people play a certain way or buy certain equipment, it's if they believe they SHOULD be better because of said items. That's a legitimate annoyance. I obviously favor Callaway as a brand for clubs and apparel, but I don't think it will make me significantly better. That's what lessons and practice are for. I know as a high handicapper it takes time to get better but I don't think if I prefer a brand or follow a routine that it should annoy anyone. I can agree that yelling silly things like the one you mentioned is irritating.

As a single didgit handicapper, I agree with you. In fact, I like high handicappers who show a brand preference in equipment and wardrobe. To me, it shows me that they have more than a passing interest in golf and may be a good indication that they are not at the course to just waste 5 hours goofing around.

there comes a point where it gets a little much. some people just like to have nice looking stuff...which is cool...but i played a round at a very nice course this weekend....Shaker Run in Cincinnati

Father and son played together + me and a friend. On the first hole at the tee box they asked me if i had every played the course and I said yes...play it alllll the time. I have a skycaddie and just put it in my pocket at all times and tell my friend the yardage on every hole. Get up to the teebox and say....xxxyards to the bunker xxxto the middle...we both hit...dad gets up there after taking his shoes off...putting socks on...putting golf shoes on...deciding he wanted his regular shoes instead...forgetting his range finder....getting a drink...walks up to box and takes out range finder and lists 10 different yardages to his son...both are playing Callway x22 irons with the new Nike Str8 driver or whatever it is...dad goes through a routine...nothing bad...hits an ok shot and all is good....kid gets up there and made sergio look like a fast player....after the 2nd hole i bet my friend a drink that he would have OVER 235 practice swings on the next 7 holes......i won.

there comes a point where people just like to have nice clubs and things in their bags...but i think 1 thing he was trying to make a point of is...this is their profession...their routine....its a putt for $...not to break 120

I couldn't have said it better myself. I wear shorts when I'm allowed.

I hear you on this, very annoying, but this is different than the point I was trying to counter. It was their habits and pace of play that were annoying you. You shouldn't tie that in with what equipment they were using.

I like Callaway for the way they look, how they feel, and because when I was researching, it was one of the more popular brands for golf. I buy the same brand in things like shirts and hats because I like to match. How I play is a different thing. I play like a pro, meaning I will count every shot, be professional, and make sure I keep up with pace of play. Again, what I wear or carry hopefully shouldn't have weight on someone's annoyance.

On this last point, I guess if you're playing because you are hardcore and/or play others for money, you shouldn't be heading out to public courses and seeking out available openings on a foursome. You'll end up with that father/son combo types of players you described and should expect that.

That's what you do with 3 other good friends in your own group.

Well stated, again. I salute you for your committment to looking presentable and being pulled together. There is nothing worse, imo, than dressing like you don't care. There is no such thing as being a poser on the golf course, imo. It's called giving a damn.

Played with a friend of mine that I don't see often, he doesn't play often and isn't very good. He likes cigars and frequently had one while out on the course. To see him in a snippet of time, I could see how one would consider him some "cigar-smoking hacker douche" (I've seen this character, and agree that I don't like it) or something, but he was VERY conscious of his pace and picked up his ball on more than one occasion when he felt like he was holding us up (which we assured him he wasn't).

Moral is: be careful about judging

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

I think you miss understood my point. I don't care what you wear or what clubs you play. It bothers me when you are doing everything to mimic the pro's mainly all of their routine. We were a twosome with no one around us on the course and it took us well over 2 hours to play 9 holes. The problem is he would walk off the yardage, check the wind, debate about a club, than go through his pro routine chunk one about 30 yards and go do it all over again. Plus he would want have a convo with me about playing a fade or draw into the green. I'm sorry if I'm offending you and everyone has the same right to be on the course but at some point you need to honor the pace of play.

I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
