I like your "Not Yours" identification. If they pick my ball up, I can assure you that I am not saying "Four" when I purposely shank one their way on my drop. This has happened several times to me and quite honestly, don't lose your cool but let the jerk off know what he just did.

this happened the other day, I was golfing and hit a good 220 drive right on the fairway

I see this guys son maybe 19-20 year old run down grab my ball and another person in our 4some and get in the cart and drive off to the next hole

needless to say I was almost kicked out of a golf course for exchanging some words the bible doesnt list

the point is, unless the balls are in a creek, abandoned part of the brush or on my tee... I leave them alone... a ball is only a dollar for a good one

Yeah, what are the odds that the one guy on the golf forum who's honest about his drives also plays inexpensive golf balls?

If I waste a drive and end up on the wrong fairway, I always announce my intention to check the ball (yes, even playing alone, I'm weird) and lift the ball just high enough to turn it to see what it is before putting it back in the same exact spot.

This is a small part of the reason I stopped playing a Nike ball - seems like 1/3 of balls I come across have a swoosh.

That 220 yd drive is actually 340 in internet yards. I've been killing it lately, getting out around 260-270... that's like 400 in internet yardage!

Yeah, what are the odds that the one guy on the golf forum who's honest about his drives also plays inexpensive golf balls?

I have no reason to lie lol... I don't care if I impress people online lol

I use a 1 wood... because i am too cheap to purchase a driver

and I play with cheap golf balls because my uncle is retired and works a deal with the course to go golf ball hunting

he gives me all the balls he cannot resell, I say fine

That is why you invest in a sharpie and write your intials or make a mark of some sort.

Can I adopt this as my new catchphrase?

This tells me you're playing an older 1 wood - perhaps even a laminate or persimmon!?!? Either way - play whatever allows you to go out and get some rounds in.

There was a course I used to play that had a quirky par 5 as the 18th hole. The fairway was S-shaped with a lake guarding the green on the front and left. If you hit driver off the tee, you had to land it in a postage stamp-sized area of fairway between two bunkers. Well, one day I push my drive way right into the adjacent #10 fairway. I get up to my ball and realize that I had just found the best way to come in. The lake was mostly out of play, and if I hit straight down #10 fairway, I had a short approach to the fat part of the green. The downside? Whenever I would take this strategy, I had to sprint to my ball because everyone playing #10 would think they just found a new ball. I think my first time doing that was the only time I didn't have to chase down a ball thief. It's strange how many people will carelessly pick up a ball despite someone walking directly towards it telling them to leave it alone.

No surprise there. Happens to me all the time. Sometimes its a race to your ball before some hacker decides it looks good enough to hit.

That's very funny.

Something about glass houses and stones comes to mind ..... but I'm sure our OP would never commit such a mortal sin. Yes, there are people capable of such heinous acts out there, we should all be "shocked, shocked". I could tell you a story about a certain croquet game in a tournament in the south of England that would make your hair stand on end ..... Just be grateful noone has yet decided to take a swipe at a ball on the fairway (with driver) while you just happen to be 75 yards further down considering your own second shot. Mind you someone like that would prolly never make solid contact ......

Excellent question. Give me the categorical data (honest/not honest about drive length by whatever criterion; cost of golf ball >/= or < the median value) and I'll run a Fisher's exact test on it.

Don't ask me to guess the resulting p value tho'.

Of course it goes without saying that if N is large enough the Chi square would be more appropriate, not to mention more efficient .......

p.s. never play golf with someone who practices statistics without a license ....

LOL.

No, you're fine. It doesn't make any sense to me now either. Which reminds me of Huxley's brilliant remembered dream: "Higomous hogomous, woman is monogamous, Hogomous higomous, ............", or something to that effect.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
