Maybe the show needs to rethink it's process and start letting these guys actually play golf rather than roll out of bed and start hitting flop shots over walls that really tell you nothing about how they actually PLAY the game of golf.

^ this. Single shot contests are fine and should be part of the show. IMO, though, there should be a lot more tee to green golf. I would like to even see a standard 9 hole round for every elimination (course should be different, of course).

Yeah I'm OK with them doing some single shot stuff too, but like you said, they need to actually play enough holes to get into some kind of groove. Maybe let them go out and play nine holes first, get into some kind of form, the lowest 9 hole score is exempt for the rest of the show and elimination and everyone else after that goes on to the single shot events to determine who goes into elimination. Then the elimination would be played over the course of 9 holes to see who goes home. Of course that would mean the show would be three hours long...

A couple of things which might have been pointed out already, but just want to state them again...
Am I the only one that actually likes Andrew? So far he's made all of the shots when they matter. And I don't know why anyone actually criticizes him talking too much. So far it's turning out to be a great strategy that's screwing with people's heads and games. When they asked either Gipper or Tony, I think it was, whether or not you want enemies on the BB he said no way. I say who cares? If anything enemies make the other players make bad decisions in an attempt to get back at you.
I also agree with what most people have said here about the way that the producers need to take out a lot of the gimmicky golf. Now although I don't think any 9 hole rounds would work, I would like to see more of the elimination stroke type play.
Lastly, did anyone notice the condition of the course during the last episode? Seemed kind of shotty and wet. Maybe it had just rained recently, but even there were a lot of brownish yellow patched on the green. And I'm not making excuses for him, but the lie that sean had where he flubbed it in the overtime elimination hole looked like it was being hit from pure mud.

Just because he has talent doesn't mean he's still not a douchebag for all his chatter. He's quite possibly the best player on the show, but he's still a douchebag. At least he can play, unlike Blake. He's just annoying because of his temper and hasn't shown much in the way of skill to back up all the talk he throws out about being one of the best players on the show.

Im like a 15 handicap now and I can compete with these guys in "individual" events. The flop shot? Cmon, I could do that just as well as them...... An approach shot to a green...??? They were using wedges, I could compete there too.....

They should have shows where they play 18, and lowest strokes is gone, thats where the talent would come out and they'd wipe their asses with me... but in individual one shot competitions, anyone could compete...

And yea, dont rule out J.R. I think he's a solid player.... Im rooting for him, love the ink!

Watched last night's show and a few observations:

1. I know Disney must have shelled out a ton of dough to get them their. But instead of turning their baseball field into a driving range and then making them hit flop shots off a carpet so it's near Magic Kingdom, they shoudl have spent a few bucks on the condition of the course. Greens have huge brown patches, mud all over the place, etc. Given all the holes on their property, you couldn't find a greener patch? I'll be in Orlando in a couple weeks and I know I won't be paying to play Disney given the conditions on TV.

2. I know this must be the Golf Channel's big money maker, but enough is enough. As a viewer I can live with some intergrated ads, sponsorships, etc., but I feel like I'm being bludgeoned with ads. Waste Management, Adams, Disney, over and over. I think the WM stuff is the worst cause Celini has to mention it 10 times in his script, then the players always have to mention the "$5000 from WM" etc.

3. The pace of the show is excruciating this season. The HR derby was the worst, but the flop shot rivaled it.

4. They need some new gimmicks, because breaking the glass and the flop wall are no longer novel.

5. I'm willing to believe this is the most talented group, but the contests are doing nothing to highlight that. I think my favorite contest so far was the risk/reward challenge where they got to decide to lay up, etc. It brought in many elements of golf. Even the 250 yard closest to the pin is interesting. But watching them hit to a line to measure distance control is really hard to see that being either exciting or a true test.

6. Andrew is entertaining if nothing else. Kind of the guy you love to hate. I can't imagine how boring the show would be without him. And I'm shocked no one has mentioned the fact that Perez is the protypical douchebag (best evidence is the clip of him running onto the green after his brother's win). And when they've shown him, Blake and Kevin in the confessional, all I could think of was this:

I think J.R. is a solid player, also think the tats are sweet. You normally don't see that on a course, let alone, the GC.

He's a consistent player and I think he'd beat Andrew heads up. Andrew is annoying and I can't stand the way he claps. He looks like a stiff a-hole. Just watch him clap, you'll know what I mean. Go. J.R., represent the midwest.

not to bring money into this but andrew has enough money to pay for q school on his own why is he there? secondly sponsors are watching this as well as potential sponsors with him displaying behavior like that who would want him representing their brand. if blake can cool it he will be a contender. but i think either perez or the two brothers will come out on top, jr is the dark horse

He's there (like everyone else) because winning this show gets you an exemption into a PGA Tour event along with an equipment deal and some cash. Winning the Big Break is much easier than making it on Tour via Q School.

Maybe so, but I didn't see anything in any of their games that tells me they would have a PGA experience beyond the first two rounds of a tournament.

it lets you play in 1 event but you still have to go to q school. winning the big break pays for q school and then some. what im saying is that he has every opportunity in the world to make it without even going on the big break. try giving the spot to someone who wouldnt be able to afford q school otherwise

Yup, but what have really seen? To be a regular on the PGA tour you better putt like a god or putt decently and do everything else REALLY well. So far the ratio of video footage of guys sitting on a bench compared to guys making putts has to be (at least) 50 to 1.

Aside from his last name, Andrew's claim to fame is being the last man on the Duke golf team, and winning the Met Open. Now, the Met Open is quite a prestigious regional tournament, but he's playing primarily club pros and good amateurs. There is nothing to indicate that would translate to anything close to the Tour. But honestly, does anyone seem more composed on the show? Maybe Vincent?

It's actually tough to tell since the entire show has focused on Andrew pissing everyone off. Given what we know about the difference between Nationwide players and PGA Tour players (it's all between the ears), do you really think a guy like Blake, who can't even deal with a mildly annoying competitor, could ever hold up under the grind of the Tour? It's also worth noting that they must film hours a day, and so far there's been about 15 seconds of real snapping. But when all they show on every promo in/out of every commercial is this big "blowup" then of course it seems a lot worse.

Also, I feel like a real idiot for getting so wrapped up in this show. Obviously the producers are trying to tell a story. It's just that so far the payoff hasn't really been there.

And does anyone really care if these guys make it on Tour? I guess that's the point of the show, but it seems like holding a tryout to get a spring training invite to Yankees camp with a bunch of college players. Is there any chance in hell they make it? Nope. I sort of like the idea better of really good ams who could get onto the Canadian Tour, etc., which I think is why some of the earlier shows were more interesting to me.

Or even do a riff on the Paper Tiger book concept and film 4-5 guys over the course of a year trying to go from 2-3 handicaps to qualifying for a tour. It would have a ton more interest as a reality show in my mind. I suppose it might be more of a documentary, but done well and it could be really interesting.

I hate to say it, but if the show needs the money, they will do whatever WM or Adams or Disney tells them to do. You think the producers are retarded and don't know that viewers don't like to see all this stuff? No, they are just trying to keep the show going without dipping into red ink. I know it is difficult to do for some people, but I personally enjoy whatever I can out of the show (or any show for that matter), and I tune out all the things I don't want to bother tuning into.

Being part of basic cable/satellite packages and not requiring special subscriptions (like movie and porn channels) makes it just a little more difficult to stay afloat. So just enjoy the fact that you don't need to spend an extra $10/month to watch golf on TV, change channels during the commercials (come back quickly though, they are short commercials), and think about your last great shot every time they go on about WM 10 times in the course of 3 minutes.

Either watch it live and deal w/ commercials or invest in a DVR, wait til the show has completely aired, play the recording, and fast forward through the commercials. Technology is so so sweet.
