How do the low-lofted hybrids work out of the rough? Problem may be for average player who thinks any hybrid is a "magic club" you can hit from anywhere. A 21* might come out of the rough OK, but will a 15*?

If rough is really deep, sometimes it's best to chop out with an 8 iron.

I don't know the answer. Maybe those of you who use low-loft Hs can fill us in.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I am going to be replacing my three wood in my signature with a 16 degree Adams that is the same as the 18 and 20 in my signature. I hit them very straight and can work left or right. I just do not use the three wood at all and do not hit it nearly as well as these hybrids. Might be giving up 10 or so yards but who cares at that point.

Thats alot of closely lofted hybrids, you ever think about dropping the 3 wood and adding a wedge? I contemplated getting a hybrid to replace 3 wood but the length of the club made the distance less and more accurate but how many times am I really expecting to put the ball on the green from 250 out. I went to a 17* 4 wood which just wasnt enough, settled on a 16* 3 wood and so far so good

Yes...thought about that many times. But I really have not seen the need for another wedge like a 60 degree. My plan is to use the 16 degree hybrid off the tee when driver is not needed. I can hot a little bit more of a boring ball flight with it compared to the 18 and gain between 15 - 18 yards off the tee which will be nice. One thing I do know...I need the TM out of my bag. Bought it on a whim and I can't keep it from diving left...so it never comes out of the bag.

I just took my Cobra Comp 3-wood out of the bag so that I could add an extra wedge. I have had a 16* Cobra Baffler for about 2 years now. It is a great club, I hit it about 245 off the tee and 210-225 from the fairway or light rough. Very easy to hit.

its sort of funny that im revisting this post almost 3 years later....i cant belive how the time has flown by. i finally did end up going ahead and getting a 16 degree the other day (adams idea pro gold), and i must say that i like it. i didnt mind my 5 wood at all, but the hybrid is a little easier to control, which makes it the ideal club to pull when hitting in a par 5, or even off a tee shot that is real tight

In the bag:
Driver: r7 quad v2 stiff
3-Wood: XLS
Hybrid: X
Irons: CG Golds 3-GWSW: x forged 56/13LW: Vokey sm 60/.08Putter: Callie 35''Ball: pro v1

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
