Top two taken out about... two hours ago. Waiting for the wife to return with the vicodin (though I don't think I need it - I'll have to fashion an old wedge as a cane and live out any Greg House fantasies I might have...). Already got some ice cream and pudding ready.

They were erupted, popped out in about 20 seconds each, and simply too far back to brush effectively, so may as well pop them out now. They came in when I was 12.

Anyone else have their wisdom teeth? Or had them removed? I still have my lowers.

I had all 4 pulled about 5 years ago. It sucked, but not intolerable, and the pain meds were more fun than function. Until I got a "dry socket" and subsequent infection in one of the holes. That was excruciating. I cleaned the holes like I was told, I don't smoke or take birth control pills, and yet I still got one.

Moral of the story..... Make sure you rinse the shit out of your mouth (literally and figuratively) constantly. If you somehow drove a par-5 and then 4-putted for par, I'd say it's probably something like that.

Had all of them removed at about 16 i think - they were growing towards the other teeth and couldnt properly develop so they were cut out in 2 sessions - wasnt the worst i ever felt so nothing really more to tell about.

Oofa!

You're one tough patient.

I had all 4 of mine yanked (finally) earlier this year, and would have stepped over my mother each time for another Percoset. I had a complication though, that it thankfully sounds like you didn't have to deal with. The roots of three of them were crossed, which meant about an hour in the chair for each. The dentist was practically standing on the arm of the chair, chained to the rail to keep from being yanked overboard and pulling for all he was worth. I thought he was gonna resort to the Jaws Of Life at the end.

He did the procedure in two sessions - two teeth each time. The worst part for me though was that he doesn't work weekends, and I couldn't take take time off the day after each procedure.

And I'm a radio announcer.

Lemme tell you, between the pain, the swelling and the cotton packing I sounded like Buckwheat in a manic-depressive jag. I couldn't take painkillers from 3am when my alarm clock went off til mid-afternoon when I finished all my post-show production work and drove (sloooowwwwwwlllly) all the way home. Where I took 2 Percoset and a medically prescribed 275ml beaker of Oban. When I woke up 13 hours later, I did it again. For 4 days.

Did you know that one of the side effects of Percoset is constipation? Do you know how many pounds of Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage your body can retain in 4 days?

I'll spare you the gory details of what happened two days after stopping the Percosets. I'll just say that if you ever come visit, use the back bathroom. Still.

Anyway, didn't mean to digress so much (blame additional medically recommended Oban). But yeah, been there and sympathise with you completely. Glad you seem to have gotten through this as well as could be expected. Although you may want to consider hiding that particular fact and milking wifey's maternal instinct for all it's worth while you can. Just sayin'.

Oh - and heed well what W.T. Cart Girl said up there, Young Glasshoppa. Dry socket is worse than being attacked by a pit bull with AIDS. You won't survive, and if you do you'll be a scarred man forever. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat. Repeat.

Hang in there, gum brother!

You're one tough patient.

At first I thought you were being facetious, but yeah, after hearing what you went through, I'm doing okay. Mine popped out in twenty seconds (I may have said that already) and I'm rating myself at a 9 out of 10 right now. I yawned earlier and that was tender, but otherwise I feel okay (knock on wood again). I mean, I _know_ that my mouth is different, but it's not really painful or anything... KOW.

I'm enjoying the pudding, too. Two Advil so far. Another two due in a little while, though I may wait and take them later tonight for bedtime.

Yeah, I read all about dry socket. I don't smoke or anything, and the nurse and doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal. I'll rinse with salt water like it's my job all day tomorrow and the day after that, and I'm still waiting for some swelling.

I tend to swallow a lot and I'm finding I have a bit more saliva than normal, so I'm at least trying to at least swallow very "lightly" so as not to pull the clots out of the sockets. But yeah, got the directions memorized. Got the salt laid out and all that.

As I'm still mired in the throes of Single Malt madness, I thought I'd add something of probably no interest to anyone at all which I neglected previously.

The worst part was having my jaws pried open for two hours non-stop with some guy ramming his fist in and out the entire time. I have a lot more sympathy for my wife now.

Thank you.

PUDDING!!

Damn. And here I was wasting my time on Scotch. ;) Gotta scoot and get to bed. The whole 'up at 3am' deal means I go down with the sun. Have a good night, man. I'm happy you only need OTC stuff (save the Vicodin for when you flip the cart and it lands on your ankle....trust me).

I still have my wisdom teeth... all 3 of them. Apparently the 4th never formed, so I guess I'm extra-evolved! I probably ought to get them out as they are tricky to keep clean and have caused mild infections a couple times, although I think I finally got the hang of preventing those...

Anyone else have their wisdom teeth? Or had them removed? I still have my lowers.

It's unusual thay they left you the lowers? Without something on top for them to chew against they are just taking up space in your mouth.

Good luck. Be careful sneezing and blowing your nose and you ought to be fine. Maybe lay off golf for a few days.

Right, but they aren't causing problems. The uppers were so far back they were not only tough for me to clean, but they were tough for the dentist to clean, too, and could lead to more serious cavities (they each had a little one towards the back) and/or infections and other bad stuff.

The bottoms present no such problems, so they're a case of "if it ain't broke...". Or so they told me... I tend to trust the experts so long as I can ask a few questions, and they answered all of my questions satisfactorily. Plus, now that I have a space back there where my old upper wisdom teeth used to be, I have a place to store my cyanide capsule in case I'm ever captured by the enemy.

Top two taken out about... two hours ago. Waiting for the wife to return with the vicodin (though I don't think I need it - I'll have to fashion an old wedge as a can and live out any Greg House fantasies I might have...). Already got some ice cream and pudding ready.

Growing up I had a lot of crowding going on and in total I've had 14 teeth pulled; 7 at one time once. Not fun.

I got two wisdom teeth (top) when I was around 21 and still have them. I do not have any bottom wisdom teeth as they never came in and are not there at all (was hoping the same would happen with the top). So far the top ones are not causing problems. I can brush them and there's enough room, but I dread the day I have to get them take out if that ever happens. I've already had enough teeth pulled for 10 people.

I've likely had more major surgerys than anyone else here, BUT I'd rather take a good beating than go to the dentist. Luckly I have good teeth and my wisdom teeth have never bothered me!! They'd have to knock my arse out to get them.

Again knock on wood, but I didn't take Advil yesterday or today. I can't notice any swelling, but my wife supposedly can. I ate some Mexican food today (a soft burrito) and chewed more towards the front of my mouth, but otherwise, all is fine (kow).

What do you do with unused vicodin? Turn it back in? I have no need for it.
