MPs arent for a high-handicapper.

So just buy a set and you won't be a high-handicapper any more!!

You cant say thats due to the clubs though. The shafts may not be right for your swing and just because YOUR shots ballooned with those clubs doesnt mean that everyone's shots will.

Berthas have been a mainstain for hackers everywhere for years and G10s are stupid easy to hit. Bottom line, the OP needs to go and hit various kinds of irons and see what fits his game the best. Whats best for your game may not be whats best for his game.

I played my cheap (~$2-300, don't recall exactly) starter irons until they started breaking. Broke the 3 and 5 irons right through the hosel on clean contact with a ball. Very odd. Decided at that point not to take chances with breaking another and hurting someone... It was after a couple dozen rounds of golf and a fair bit of practice, but spread over about 8 years with some long periods away from the game.

TWI,

We're basically in agreement. My remarks on BBs and G10s were cautionary. Other middle handicappers I have talked to have dumped BBs or G10s because they just got the ball up too high. Others, like you, really like the clubs. I meant to say, don't go out and buy BBs or G10s without testing them. Remember, the OP was having trouble with too much height on his irons, whereas his woods were OK.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I went from Adams A2 OS to Callaway Fusions. (4 left wrist surgeries to put it back together after I shattered it) my left wrist was very weak for about 4years.

I didn't need the offset anymore and the Fusions were like carving through Butter.

Bought new irons when I could finally hit the ball of the ground (this past june) with a $50 set I got from Dunham's. Did some research (i.e. reading reviews, forum discussions, etc), hit some different irons at my local golf galaxy, and bought a used set from ebay (beware of fraud). I guess I didn't get the advantage of being fitted, but I'll be using my set until I get my handicap down to under 20.

Mizuno MX-950s have shaved 30-35 strokes off my score, and there's more yet. (yes, I was THAT bad, I used to score in the 120's). They're amazingly forgiving, beautifuly feeling and guess what, I can still work them left to right and right to left.
My achievements:

Birdies: 18

I would go with a set of PING G10's.

Buy some used ones from a golf shop or Ebay(make sure the person/shop have a TON of reviews).

EVEN if teh color code does not fit you, PING will totally change the color(Fit) for you. They only charge $18 bucks to do this, so you can pretty much buy ANY G10's and get yourself fitted then send them to PING with 18 bucks to get them bent to what you need. GREAT way to save some money and get very very good quality clubs IMO

I'm gonna take someones recent advice and play with what I have until I'm ready to upgrade (which is now lol) or until they break. The ping g10 color code? Is that the lie of the club?

Trust me I'm no sure I'm not the only one who is dying to upgrade as soon as they get hooked on the game.

Try the Mizuno MX range (MX200 or MX300 probably?). My friend used to have some Cobra SZ super game improvers, but much prefers his Mizuno MX200s! They are still quite forgiving but much better than the game improver irons... hope this helps!

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
