LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans among 2010 LPGA Tour schedule highlights
Calendar to feature 24 tournaments, including new events in Atlantic City, Acapulco and southern California

HOUSTON, Texas, Nov. 18, 2009 – Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Acting Commissioner Marty Evans today announced that the Tour will partner with long-time LPGA sponsor Wegmans to conduct the 2010 LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans. It will be among 24 official money events in 10 countries on the 2010 LPGA Tour.

The announcement was made during a press event at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship Presented by Rolex.

“The Wegmans LPGA, Locust Hill Country Club and the Rochester community are all so important to the LPGA Tour, so it's only appropriate that they should host this prestigious championship in 2010,” said Evans. “We are grateful to Colleen Wegman and Wegmans Food Markets for their continued commitment to the LPGA, and look forward to working closely with them while concurrently continuing our discussions with potential long-term partners for the LPGA Championship.”

The 2010 LPGA Championship will be the second LPGA Tour major conducted during the season. It will be played at the site of the Wegmans LPGA event in Pittsford, New York from June 21-27, 2010.

“It is an honor for Wegmans to be Presenting Sponsor for the 2010 LPGA Championship and also to bring a major championship event to Locust Hill Country Club and the Rochester community,” said Wegman. “It was my Grandfather's dream to host a major LPGA Championship event in Rochester. We will work on his behalf to make the 2010 LPGA Championship the best ever.”

Among other highlights of the LPGA Tour schedule released today:

•The LPGA Classic Presented by J Golf will be played at the prestigious La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, outside of San Diego, the week prior to the Kraft Nabisco Championship;
•The Bell Micro LPGA Classic returns after a one-year hiatus to allow a shift from the fall to the spring, to be held the week of May 10-16;
•After a three-year absence from Atlantic City, the LPGA Tour returns to the New Jersey coastal area with long-time supporter ShopRite as the title sponsor;
•The Evian Masters returns to the LPGA Tour featuring a purse of $3,250,000.
“We have made great strides in our long-term goal of building an intelligent and sustainable schedule for the LPGA Tour,” said Evans. “The LPGA Tour competition has been great this year, and in particular the last few weeks. We also have exciting, energizing leadership in place with incoming Commissioner Mike Whan ready to take the reins. We look forward to a wonderful season finale this week and a bright future for the LPGA Tour in 2010 and beyond.”

How would one go about getting tickets to these events? Through the golf course itself? Are these tickets expensive?

TIA

Not sure about prices but go to LPGA.com and they should have info there. I always go to the Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day (it's played in the next town over from me)-it's a blast watching the pros in person.

Thanks :) Looking at the schedule, the only ones within driving distance seem to be either in Carlsbad or Rancho Mirage as these are the only 2 in Southern California. I guess only the men play at Torrey Pines. Been to Torrey Pines, to look, not to play. I should have putted around a bit, then I could've said I've played there haa haa haa, LOL.

I agree that one of the great items is the Wegman's LPGA Championship, AND it continues to be two weeks before the Women's US Open:

June 21-27 (June 24-27) LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans 2,250,000
Locust Hill Country Club
Pittsford, N.Y.
June 28-July 4 (July 1-4) Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger 1,000,000
Highland Meadows Golf Club
Sylvania, Ohio
July 5-11 (July 8-11) U.S. Women’s Open * 3,250,000
Oakmont Country Club
Oakmont, Pa.

Here is Upstate New York, we LOST the Corning Classic last year after 30+ years. It was a sad occasion. Thank God that we have the Wegman's at a great course in Locust Hill, and it will now be a Major in 2010!

Tickets can almost always be bought at the gate, even for the Kraft Nabisco which is a major. If you are planning on going for multiple days there are usually weekly passes that will be even cheaper. Check the LPGA website early next year for links. Daily tickets are around $30.

Pity you missed the Samsung invitational LPGA event that was at Torrey Pines recently. All the top LPGA players were there - what a splendid show! I'm planning to make La Costa in Carlsbad this year (as well as the PGA event at Torrey Pines of course) - maybe I'll see you there.

It's all happening down here in sunny SD .... be there or be square. [and besides we're broke and need the money]

Driver: Cobra 460SZ 9.0, med.
3 Wood: Taylor stiff
3-hybrid: Nike 18 deg stiff

I hope the new Commissioner, Michael Whan is able to expand the schedule. There are many stars, including Americans like Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, and Cristie Kerr, whom we would like to see more often.
