My girlfriend bought me this club for my birthday and this thing is quite awesome
It should substantially help out my short game. It feels awesome and has great control for the short game, but if you want to rip it. It'll go as far as your PW. I absolutely love it so far.

Maybe a more indepth review of it in the spring time. Right now there is snow in MN

Any of you playing this hybrid wedge?

I'm of the same opinion.

If it works for you go for it, I prefer chipping with a lob-wedge.

No. I chip with different clubs as the lie and pin placement dictate - everything from a 2i to LW this season - I've used driver and 3w in the past.

Mine gets thrown in the bag occasionally - i like it for thick rough but really dont use it for chipping

I chip with different clubs too..but never to the extreme of using woods..lol Ill rarley chip with anything shorter than a PW. Im a minimum air maximum roll kind of dude when it comes to chipping..

I have the 37 deg Niblick. I do not like if for chipping around the green because it is hard to control the run out of the ball, I am more comfortable with my sand wedge in these situations. I have used it most successfully for tough punch out's from the rough or where there are low hanging branches. With the 37 deg and a full swing with this club I can fly it 150 yds which makes it nice for long rough approach shots.

Same here--I have the 42 degree Niblick and really wanted to like it, but have never been able to control the release adequately enough to get confident with it as a greenside club. Wedges are more accurate for me. It is, however, a great approach/recovery club in deep rough or muck--I generally only carry mine nowadays if I'm playing a links-style course, particularly on a rainy or very wet day.

This doesn't sound like a chipper at all. I carry two gap wedges on one course. The Titleist doubles as a sand wedge for long bunker shots and the ProStaff is better out of the long rough. I get it now.

I have the 42 Niblick and use it almost exclusively around the green. I also like it for bump and runs. It comes out of my bag frequently. Great club for me. I am going to suuplement my bag with C14 56 degree wedge from Cleveland.

My wife uses an old Wilson Chipper and loves it. Ego does not (yet) allow me to use a chipper/niblick or whatever you want to call it; but I endorse folks playing however works for them. I believe many high/mid handcappers would do better taking the Lob Wedge out of the bag and repacling it with a Chipper type instrument and playing more bump and run style (at least in my geography - Texas). I have toyed with the idea of replacing my highest lofted wedge (57 degree) with an 8-9 iron with a putter length shaft and bent to a more upright lie (A Stealth Chipper!). Would likely be great for close to green chips.

I am never a long hitter, but I bought a 49 and loved it from up to 80 metres or so - now added a 42 which get me 100 - 110 metres from the fairway, and useful from light rough. Have given away my 9, though the 42 is said to be equivalent to PW. Thinking about the 37 in lieu of 8 or maybe even 7 - seems to offer an extra 5 - 10 metres as compared to the equivalent loft in a conventional wedge / short. The balls stops pretty well too.

47 no good for chip and run, 42 a bit better but prefer a 7 or 8 most of the time.

Obvious question is - how do you know it isn't for you then? I have had one and used it a bit when I was a beginner, though now I know how (at least in theory) how to use my wedges I have given it up. Can't imagine a low handicapper would need one but a battler may find it a lot simpler to get reasonable results.

I do love it from the fairway from about 120 yds. in--it's strong and long.  I was hoping to also use it as my primary chipping club, but no matter what I try, the roll-out is always far too long. But for a walking golfer who rarely carries a full set of clubs, the Niblick fills a nice niche, doubling as my nine/pitching wedge (D, 4w, 4h, 6i, 8i, niblick, 52*w, 60*w, putter).

Look on ebay for a 37 degree - they do not make them anymore but it is a heavily used club in my bag. Deep rough, 110 yards in, next to tree roots or for putting out of a sand bunker (any many more uses that escape me at the moment)

I also carry the SW Niblick which is used as my SW.

The 42 degree one is tough - only worse one is the 49 degree a friend of mine bought and could never find a use for - he couldnt even con me into buying it off of him.

I bought a 49 degree recently as they're going for $49 online now.      I thought I would like it as a gap wedge, but it's appearance is so different than my other clubs, I just can't get used to it.    Plus it's really not a chipper - dedicated chippers are much more failsafe around the greens - I have no problem blading chip / pitch shots with it around the greens .    I don't think I'm going to keep it - it's an interesting concept, but after using it, it's not for me
