I wouldn't take this too seriously.Geared towards being a dramatic moment for his television series moreso than anything rooted in reality I'd imagine.

Probably so. I would imagine you will see him pop up on the European Tour this year. Didin't he have 3 or 4 decent tournaments there last year?

I caught the end of the interview this evening and my immediate thought was that he was playing it up for the series, but after seeing some of his scores that iacas posted of his over the past year, maybe reality has set in. The little that I saw of his day 1 performance yesterday was pretty poor. I missed today's broadcast.

I thought of the television series aspect and then had to wonder if he and TGC would stoop that low. I hope it was just emotions speaking and not some PR stunt.

With all the "staging" of statements and events now being relative to reality shows, it's hard to believe much of anything you hear or see. Was this emotional overdrive in the heat of a moment, or was it an act with a written stament provided by the writers at the "Great and Grand" Golf Channel just to boost intrest in the upcoming show?
Well, you have to wonder.......

I tend to believe he's pissed at the way he's played, which is understandable, reality show or not. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've always liked him. I've not cared for the way he's carried himself all the time, but he is a draw with entertainment written all over him. I hope he rebounds.

My advice to John: go away. For your own good. You're right - you are embarrassing yourself. Go away, work on your game. Do your corporate outings (you'll earn more doing that than MCing every week) to earn some money to pay your cadre of ex-wives, and if you actually return to a level that can compete, come back. The few fans you have left will likely welcome you back with open arms.

I think that everyone who is dogging John right now needs to back off. Here's a guy who has had some extreme highs in his career and also some low lows where he really screwed things up for himself. He's now making an attempt to right the ship. Will he get all the steps right along the way? Doesn't look like it. Then again, who, when they try to turn their life and career around truly does? The comments he made are unfortunate but what I'm hearing is a guy who truly wants to succeed and is tremendously frustrated because he's not where he wants to be. I think if everyone just cuts him some slack and leaves him alone maybe he'll realize he spoke too quickly and will simply work harder to be where he wants to be. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"

Nobody's dogging the big lug, and maybe if someone had "dogged" him more throughout his life it wouldn't have turned out to be the trainwreck that it's been. The guy won two majors and probably could have won six. We've been robbed of witnessing greatness because of the enablers that let him drink and divorce and act like a buffoon.

He's now making an attempt to right the ship.

No, he's quitting. Big difference. He's taking the easy way out.

I used to be a big fan, but am not and never will be again. The sooner this guy's out of golf - or makes a FULL recovery and gets back to golf - the better. Until either of those things actually happens, I don't want to hear about John Daly.

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

No. He screwed up and tried coming back, like 20 different times. He continually puts himself in the limelight. Continually brings bad things on himself. For the love of God man, the guy has a friggin' reality show coming out!!! (AGAIN) HE craves the attention. He brings it all on himself. He's the one that's been out there playing "half-a$$sed / I don't care" golf in polka-dotted neon green pants for over a year. So no, nobody needs to back off of John Daly. He needs to back off.

Did he?

t17 at Hong Kong Open

t31 at Open de Espana t2 at Italian Open t27 at Open Championship t59 at St. Jude First 3 are Euro events; 4th a MAJOR; last a PGA event He had a runner-up in '09. That doesn't fall into good? DBeane didn't say he had an amazing year. He said he had a "handful of good tournaments", which as you can see, he did.

Now I do agree with that. Having a poor support system where people allow hiim to continue all that crap has probably been the biggest problem. But then again, those who we think have it all together and have good people around them sometimes don't (TW). I didn't really expect my post to be met with much support. I guess I feel for the guy and think that this "comeback/turnaround" attempt was different that those he had tried in the past. Anytime somebody goes to the trouble to remake themselves physically, that usually means they are bit more serious. I, too lost a bunch of weight and turned my life around in many different ways. I stumbled along that path and ultimately had good success. I just thank goodness that I didn't have people standing off to the side telling me to get lost and give it up. But I guess that's the cross to bear for someone who is semi-famous and has alot of unrealized talent.

Daly Tweeted today, saying "Never said retirement in anything or twitter-i want to correct that! simply sayin I need my time & working through these bad times thank you."

Now he's just taking some time off. He never ceases to amuse me.

He's an impulsive individual at the best of times.maybe it was for the tv show, maybe not.Every time I see him play or give an interview, 'mess' comes to mind.if he turned himself around and put the work in,i'd be happy for him.But that's not going to happen.if I were him I'd get back into course design and corporate golf events, make some money and enjoy life the way he wants to.I don't mean this in an offensive way but I think the game of golf has moved way beyond guys like John Daly.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Apparently he's playing at Pebble Beach in two weeks to "honor his commitment." Oh brother...
