John Daly quits golf??

One of his stated reasons for not playing is that he "can't afford to keep playing the PGA Tour" (or something like that).

But if he quits golf how is he going to pay them?

Maybe he should just go back to playing mostly the European tour. He seemed to play better there.

I think people resent John Daly because he has failed to realize his enormous gift and potential. We wish we had half his talent, and can't imagine how he could throw it away. The guy struggles with depression and alcoholism so it depends on your philosophy...you either view his problems as a character flaw, or as an illness like cancer or diabetes.

John Daly is set today to make a triumphant return to golf. It seems like only 2 weeks ago that he was crying in the parking lot after missing a(nother) cut. Oh, wait. That WAS 2 weeks ago. Well, hopefully he can make the cut this week. I don't know if I can take the drama if he were to announce another retirement.

I actually do hope he plays well today. I want to route for him, I really do. Let's hope golf takes priority over shiny pants and bluesy guitar riffs this week.

You can criticize all you want, thats one thing that makes America great. We can have a pill popping lard ass like Rush Limbaugh criticize a professional like Obama and sheeple yuk it up. A phrase like "not a good player" is a bit silly when we are talking about a 2 time major champion. Daly could give the owner of that comment 5 a side and strum him like a banjo at his home course. Chez Reavie is a boring player to watch....but you'll never hear me say he sucks...

I think John Daley has realized his potential. 2 majors = game. Ok could he have won more? Don't know. You know what? They are so hard to win....odds say NO.

Only shame I see...... is it seems he blew most or all his $$$$ along the way. That is a shame. But it happens all the time with athletes or entertainers you name it. If he blows out of the tour this year I wonder where he will land. Really he seems to be a survivor in a lot of respects. I suspect he will be fine.

Maybe JD will start playing the European tour again. It's tough to win on tour or even stay in the top 125. Look at David Duval and Lee Janzen....they fell hard too.

So many demons and so little experience living clean and sober.

Maybe a few years away...way far away from the booze, gambling and whatever else had been killing him. I don't see him pulling it off, though.

Sad to watch that much talent go to waste.

John had a good tournament going in Mexico this weekend—shot in the 60s each of the first three rounds, and 17th going into the Sunday—but it all fell apart for him again, shooting a final-round 81 to finish 67th. He netted a whopping $7,308 for the week: some five times less than he would have left Cancun with had he held his position.

He said his Adams rep forgot to send a new 3 wood and had to use a hybrid 1 all week.
I didn't watch the coverage today, but he also said on his twitter feed that the conditions were very difficult. Everyone had to play in the same thing though.
