OK, look, I'm okay (for now) with the use of "Sand Trap" and stuff in the name. I may even help to organize one of the outings in this area... but please don't start threads and go nutty with things just yet...

Here's and idea of how this could probably move forward:

Pick a day - say May 10th or something (I don't even know what day of the week that is - I'm just making it up) - and have every tournament on that day. Assign one person to "chair" each tournament and they can be responsible for booking a course and all that. Maybe they can also take some pictures and submit a little writeup or something, and we can collect them all and put them on the forum and the main site.

If you'd prefer not to be that organized, well, then carry on. Good or bad, these things tend to peter out, though... It's a lot of work to put something together. Good luck. I'll gladly help if y'all get to a point where it's gonna happen, even for one region or something, we can create a thread or two for the get-together.

We could even (perhaps) collect entry fees and I could use that to buy prizes at discounted rates or something (Leupold range finders, etc.).

BTW, you can't call it an "invitational" if everyone gets to invite themselves. Call it an Open. STOP.

Anybody for Denver/ Fort Collins?

I think there are at least few of us from Denver area. Someone is from Littleton. I don't know his alias. I just know his avatar is of a little kid (his relative or something like that--maybe a picture of his uncle or grandpa when he was young)

Erik, would there be any way to post an informational thread of the proposed "STOP" tournament on the front page with a call out for regional chairs? Any city/state... We would probably gain more traction with support from the site. It could also be a good way to get new members as we'd tell people we golf with to sign up for the "the sand trap" and they you can participate in the open.

OK, I think there is a way to make this happen.

Instead of worrying about trying to collaborate a big actual tournament, we could have an ONLINE TOURNAMENT - a Stickied thread - 'Sand Trap Tournament 1' - and have people post **rounds that they've played with another sandtrap member(s)**. Each person playing will post the score of their group. They can all be verified once each member playing per round posts their own score - linked to those in their group with the "Reply With Quote" button.

Everyone playing will have to have their scores posted by a certain date (per "tournament"). We could have a tournament every couple of weeks or one a month atleast.

The scores would be handicapped or we could have flights if the interest is high enough. The "scores" would actually be a handicap differential, to equalize the playing field regardless of the course. ( the slope rating and course rating would be considered - so each "score" figured to decide to the actual Winner(s) of the tournament would be a differential . That way everyone could compete - regardless of the course.***

***this would only work if we all followed the same Handicapping system

What do you guys think??

jay birds idea is good. i like both ways. kind of like a regional or just where u can post your scores. everyone play a round at there home course on sunday and scores must be posted by 8pm est that night. there is more of a chance of cheating involved but i guess u can cheat anyway u play it. and if someone feels they have to cheat on a fun TFT tourny thats just sorry. I dont really like the idea of making it a certain handicap to enter. If i come in 50th place maybe that wsa my goal and I had fun doing it. i understand its a tourny but lets have fun with it. its not like your winning the US Open. but i like jay-birds idea. im sure everyone can find another TST member to play 18 with at a local course

I like the idea in general. It should work because we all carry a handicap, and using the slope of the course would level it nicely. That being said we should try to find courses with similar slopes... say 130ish? Perhaps Erik could use the tournament to advertise his scorecard product... something that I use and love!

If we just say, everyone play "X-course" on Sunday in this region, it would mean that everyone could participate without having to travel. It would be on your honor, but this is a game of honesty really. I know that not everyone tells the truth about their score, but I think the honor system is just fine in a tournament where there aren't any prizes...

I also like the idea of mixing it up, and saying that you play X course on Sunday, and Y-course on Sunday. Create a 36 hole tourney of sorts.

Lets just say that you need to have established a certified handicap to participate.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
