Im with you on this, I dont necessarily look down on people wearing jeans on courses, especially if the course is just a goat trail. But I am certaintly not looking up to them, whats the harm in looking good with slacks and a polo? I honestly think I play better when I look good compared to if I am just clothed in street clothes.

No harm in it, the problem is when you (the abstract you, not you personally) decide that since you like playing in polo/khaki that everyone else should too. I wear what's comfortable to me and hope you'll wear what's comfortable to you... and actually I don't like jeans on the course, but just because the pockets are too tight to hold my extra ball, tee, divot tool, pencil, etc.

1. Remember it is just a silly old game and have fun
2. Always respect your playing partners
3. Always respect the course
4. Be ready to play when you are away
5. Take dead aim

1. Arrive on time for a tee time and don't waste time before starting
2. Replace divots, fix ball marks and rake sand traps (Course Maintenance)
3. Respect other player's concentration don't make sound in his pre-shot routine or his swing (not even whispering)
4. Don't walk in other players' putting lines and watch your shadow around the green
5. Let players play through if they are obviously faster than you

These may not be the most important rules to everybody but in my opinion they are the ones that most people need reminding of the most. The rules I listed are ones that I have problems (with others breaking my rules, obviously) with at the courses that I play (struggling university student... so cheap public courses).

For those arguing that it is important to dress properly for golf I completely agree with you. Why not take pride in the way you look on the course? I'm 21 years old and you'll never see me in anything but proper slacks and nice polos (color coordinated of course).

I was in your shoes not too long ago. Well stated.

Although, your rules apply and should be emphasized at ANY golf course, not just the cheap public ones.

1) Do not step in someones line while on the green
2) No talking when someone is swinging or preparing to swing
3) No cell phones
4) No throwing clubs
5) Be a gentlemen/lady on the course and in the club house (includes dressing appropriately at all times)

No particular order or rank, but these are the rules that i find to be paramount.
