There might not be any hard evidence, but I don't find it hard to believe at all should it turn out to be true. When you consider Jordan's history of philandering ways and his friendship with Tiger, it's just not a big leap.

I heard Barkley was in on it too. Either way, they did a bad job, he got caught, didn't he?

I've blamed Jordan and Barkley for this from the beginning. They live that lifestyle and Tiger got sucked into it. Not hard to imagine.

Tiger didnt get 'sucked' into it, he's just like them.

Anyone who expected the worlds richest, most famous athlete to be monogamous, is very, very naieve(sp).

I was wondering when someone would bring up this article. I thought people were ignoring it because of Tiger fatigue.

I don't think you can blame just one person. First off, it's Tiger's fault and Tiger's alone - no one can make him do anything he doesn't want to. With that said, he grew up with a philandering father, hung out with some of the biggest poon hounds on the face of the planet, and was surrounded by a group of enablers - Stevie knew, his agent had to know, and many of his inner circle had to know also. It's no wonder he was bangin' cocktail waitresses and hookers at every PGA stop in the country. Hell, even the most pious person with the will power of 100 men would succumb to influences and temptations like that.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who, if anyone, influenced him. He did it.

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

Exactly.

Who do you all think showed him how to pay them off, put them up in hotels, in every city?.?.? Jordan has done it for decades while he was married. Jordan even toted girlfriends under his arm in public while he was still married! I didn't realize most people didn't know this.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who, if anyone, influenced him. He did it.

I agree 100%!!

In Tigers shoes, 99% of us would have done the same. The only mistake he's making, is saving his marriage. Ending it would have ended a lot of stress, and let him focus on golf.

His biggest mistake was Getting Married in the first place. If he want to tap all that different strange.....don't get married. He could have waited till he mellowed out and then started a family.

He's a little piglet.

What a moron. He doesn't need to worry about saving his marriage...he needs to worry about AIDS. Eldrick needs to call it a good day if he only gets gonnereah (sp?) !

I don't think that is true at all. Or at least I would be in the 1%.

Its easy to say when you, like me, could never imagine the kind of superstardom Woods has achieved. Its more common for pro athletes to cheat than it is for them to remain faithful. Anyone who judges him for what he's done, has no idea what it is to be him.

Men equate money and women with power, and no its no suprise that Tiger was enjoying lots of both.

I'd say 50%.

If you have solidly entrenched morals/values money and power doesn't corrupt. I agree with others, if you aren't ready to commit to a family, don't get married and play the field. Do you think any of the following top athletes would ever cheat on their marriage? Jack Nicklaus, Roger Staubach, Nolan Ryan. Are you saying that 99% of our Presidents have cheated on their wives?

It isn't just Tiger. I see lots of people who aren't stars, aren't wealthy, aren't even all that bright, getting married (and - God help us - having kids) before they're done partying. It's insane, and a recipe for disaster. Most of them just aren't in the public eye.

His biggest mistake was Getting Married in the first place. If he want to tap all that different strange.....don't get married. He could have waited till he mellowed out and then started a family.

Seriously. Also, did Elin somehow not know he was into this? Or did this thing with Tiger and Jordan start after the marriage?

If you have solidly entrenched morals/values money and power doesn't corrupt.

I doubt this. While it is difficult to test, it seems like one of those things where any counter-example can be met with "well, he clearly didn't have solidly entrenched morals/values, otherwise the money and power would not have corrupted him." Of course, the examples I'm thinking of right now are the TV preacher caught with the male escort a few years ago and the governor whose provisional was in Argentina.

I agree with others, if you aren't ready to commit to a family, don't get married and play the field.

I hope this is the big lesson from Tiger to other future stars.

Do you think any of the following top athletes would ever cheat on their marriage?

Jack wasn't a star in the same way Tiger is. He was there during the era that golf was becoming popular with the masses. I'd have to look up Staubach to know who he is with any detail, and if there had been a cheating scandal, I assume you wouldn't have listed him. So let's list him as clean. I'm not familiar enough with baseball to know about what Nolan Ryan's propensities are or aren't. Even so, the presence of a top player in a sport not getting caught cheating doesn't mean that the sport is clean: to go through those sports: Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, and A-Rod each had cheating (or semi-cheating) scandals.

Are you saying that 99% of our Presidents have cheated on their wives?

With the presidents, it takes only one to not do it to counter-act the 99%; recall that we've had fewer than 50, regardless of how you count a certain someone from the late 19th century. The early presidents weren't powerful in the way today's are: more leaders of a distant republic than leaders of the free world (although it is well known that at least one did step out). I'll go so far as to guess that Harrison didn't have a chance, while president, to cheat and that Carter had no inclination to do so. But the surprise to me about the presidents isn't so much that there were cheaters, but that there aren't more. It's all about evolution, and why men, at some level, wanted to be leaders in the first place, whether in sports, politics, or other areas that bring money, power, and fame.

I'd say 50%.

I would bet more presidents have cheated than you think.

And who is to say what Nicklaus or Ryan did in their primes? Nolan Ryan wasnt always the 'deeply religious' man he is today. All im saying, is there are more Tigers, barkleys, and Jordans than you think. A lot more. When men are away from wives for a week or two or three, they get still get horny. Morst dont have the lurury Tiger does, to get it anywhere, anytime, at the drop of a hat.

A grown man needs to be held accountable for his actions, no one forced him to act on his desires. He has enough sense to know right from wrong. Tiger needs to truly address the issue, because his attempt thus far has been pathetic. He is not keeping any pride or saving face by dancing around questions. I don't respect him as a person or a golfer, he has brought a lot of shame to the sport. This was the equivalent to steroids in baseball. He failed his family, the sport, the fans, and his sponsors. Jordan may have suggested something with his own lifestyle, but that doesn't mean Tiger had to act the same way. It would have been better on himself, and especially his wife and family if he would have just filed for divorce.

I'd say 50%.

A higher percentage of ALL MEN apparently cheat on their wives, so the number is much higher than 50% for those who have more access to women.

Great, but this thread has nothing to do with golf, and thus, doesn't really belong in Tour Talk.

I still can't care much less than I do about Tiger's personal life. How much do I care? To the extent that it affects his golf. That's it.
