My understanding was that you had to buy a driver first before entering the contest, but I guess not.

That's what they want you to think! Always read the fine print, it's how the MAN keeps us down.

Yeah, part of how lottery laws work. They can give you a ticket with the purchase, but if they don't offer a "no purchase necessary" clause, they run across the gambling/lottery laws.

FYI for those of you who entered, you can now check the status of your entry on the Golfsmith page. It didn't work for me, but I clicked the email link and they were able to confirm that my entry was received and approved. It was a bit of panic when the automatic check didn't come up with any records, though.....

Thanks for the heads up! Looks like they took the automated form down and are just asking to send them an email. Can't wait till mine is confirmed!

Its get better - supposedly they have so much traffic that their servers can't handle it so they are asking you to send an email to Little & King to check on status. I did this and got this canned reply:

Please provide a photocopy of the participating receipt or the non-purchase, survey form mailed in order to participate in the sweepstakes so we can attempt to track your entry. This was for the mail-in only promotion, not the online sweepstakes to win a round of golf with Phil Mickelson.

Thank you for your interest in our promotion and continued support of Golfsmith.

Sincerely,

Little & King Co., LLC

On behalf of Golfsmith

Now of course I didn't make a copy of the survey form - The official rules even states (section 3b) that "NO COPIES OF AN OFFICIAL ENTRY FROM WILL BE ACCEPTED". Now they are requiring me to send it in again. I didn't make a copy. Why should I - they already state copies are not acceptable. This is pretty much exactly what I expected - they would find a way to renig on a whole gropup of people after they lost the "bet."

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

That's odd, I was just asked for the contact information I provided. Perhaps if you answer back with name, address, phone, and email, they'll respond. I wouldn't get too worried though, confirming your entry isn't actually necessary, it's just for peace of mind. I doubt that they lose too many of the entries---I think these things are fairly professionally run and subject to some form of audit. I believe that's why they've got things farmed out to consulting company for contest administration. Of course, given their failure to put together a server capable of handling the load, I guess "professionally" is a very broad term....

I did send all of the contact info, that's when I got the canned reply above. Golfsmith took out insurance for this so its not costing them much at all. Just annoyed I amay be one who gets screwed by a lost entry and no way for confirmation. It always seems to happen to me......

Hey Cheez, try entering your last name and zip code only. It was mentioned on another site that a rep told someone to try that. It worked for me. Makes me wonder if all the data entry wasn't yet complete for the website.

Anyway, see if that works for you.

It's too late for this one, but I always photocopy rebate (etc) forms before submitting. You can't re-submit the photocopy, but you can use it to demonstrate that you sent it in. It's made the difference for me twice on electronics rebates.

That's just it, it doesn't prove that I sent it in. It only proves that I got a form and at some point filled it out. I already know I'm screwed. I guess I just have to suck it up a deal with it.....

I hope it's just a temporary clerical error, cheez. It sounds like they may be swamped with more responses than they were expecting, so maybe it'll work out...

By the way, they seem to have reinstated the automated system. It now works for me using my last name and zip code. If you haven't been confirmed, it might be worth a shot now...

Another long shot may be to go into a store and see if they have any of the forms laying around still, you could re-fill it and scan it to them or whatever...... just a suggestion.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
