Ok big time rant time. 

Man, I am still hot under the collar after the range session tonight. Like, John Wick gets his dog shot smoldering pissed off. Like, WTF is going on. It is driving me crazy right now. I go from hitting great shots up in Erie, to this being a cluster F***. Come on Matt, you don't need Erik to hold your F****** hand to make you hit the ball good. Jesus. WTF. 

1st) The backswing is all a mess because I am trying to get the forearms to turn over. So, it's F****** 30 degrees across the line at the top (verified by video), because I am trying to over exaggerate it, so I am giving it extra length for momentum. Because that added in swing length, I now haw no time to get the club down. So, hello right side bend. If I don't right side bend, I don't turn. Because, turning causes me to steepen the golf club. So, I am like 10 degrees closed at impact (video verified). I even have video where I get to A6, and I start turning more, and I steepen the club because. It's like turn = yank on club. 

2nd) Trying to pause a bit on the backswing has thrown my timing off so much, I either slide hips forward, and right side bend (F****** back doesn't like that). Or, I yank on the club and steepen the crap out of it. If I try to pause and do the forearm stuff, it's a mess of what I talk above.

Ok, enough of that, time to refocus and get back at it. Just going to grind at this for eternity.

And of course, none of that should matter if I’m practicing because it shouldn’t be based on the results of contact. Took me about an hour and a half to calm down to have that realization.

1) Shorter backswing (hello old friend) - Feel mostly turn only, straight arms, stop backswing when golf shaft is vertical to ground (I might make this more of a turn feel or arm position feel), slight pause. 

*Video Check - Hands do not get behind my head and the club is at a 45-degree angle from parallel on the face-on view. 

2) Downswing - Feel the downswing being arms only. Send hands out away from body to neutral out swing path. The body will turn. The key is going to feel the pause to set up the feel of arms down. If I turn first and add right elbow bend, I am screwed. 

*This one might be difficult to check on video. The feel right now is very distinct. I was very much a turn the body first, then lower the club with both the arms and side bend.  When you don't do any of that, you can feel it. I feel way taller through impact as well. 

2.5) Straighten left knee sooner. Pushing my left hip up and back by pressing into the ground with my left heel. Kind of something to work own, but not necessarily a priority right now.

Really happy with the backswing length. I found it if I just feel the weight shift right. Loading into the right leg, and feel all internal rotation of the hip. My backswing just really shortened up. 

I have to keep working on the hand path and club head path. A big pause helps. If I turn, I just steepen the path.

Some positives playing in league tonight. 

1st) Making the backswing a more lateral shift, and feeling the left leg and torso resist the turn at the top of the swing is helping out a lot. I got to feel an uncomfortable amount of pause in the backswing to set up the downswing. 

2) I need to do a bit of more arm stuff better. Still too much draw or pull draws for my liking. 

3) Short game is getting sharp. Many tap-ins tonight. I am trying to make the shortest backswing possible for the shot. It really forces me to stay aggressive with the pivot.

Backswing: Finally getting the swing shorter. Right elbow is a tad too bent, but at least it’s not overly bent and behind me. Basically, my previous posts on just feeling more lateral shift right, internal hip rotation. This time I added in a large amount of feeling grip pressure peaking at A2. Just holding that grip pressure constant in transition. It’s added a bit of sensory feedback for where my hands are at and it control the club a bitter more. 

Downswing: Making the swing this short has messed up my timing with my downswing stuff. The swing feels like 50% shorter in duration. I got to retrain pausing a bit and my downswing stuff. 

On the positive. This is 3-4 range sessions in a row where the swing has been consistently shorter.

Contact is getting better. Swing path is still too inconsistent. Pushes and over draws. Sometimes some pull draws.

I got to get this downswing path figured out.

Finally the backswing is getting consistency shorter. This is the best its looks in a while. 

1. Swing is shorter
2. Arms and clubs don't carry well past when the torso stops turning. 

It was feeling like my arms do nothing at all. Like the butt of the club stays pointed at my belly from A1 to A2. Then from A2 to A3, it's just a slight lift and turn to finish the backswing. Then a pause at A3

A bit better today. The swing was on point when I did my pieces better. 

1) Turn only backswing.
2) Shorter backswing. Even keeping the amount I turn less. 
3) Arms down + turn.

Watched those two videos. Some comments. 

On the AMG video. 

The sticking point for me is going to be dis-engaging the arms/hands being tied to the twist of my torso. Also, turning enough when I do get the arms down. I have a tendency to just pause the lower body. I need to get the hands down to my right side more than out at the ball. 

On The Fraser Golf Institute video.

I will work on this, on the side. I feel like adding any of that right now will just delay the arms getting down. It's probably something that needs blended in with the arms down. I found that rubber weight you put on the golf shaft. I will use that to get some feels on shallowing the club.

    • Day 354: shitty, busy week so far. Only had time for a bit mirror work - working on the same things. 
    • IDK, a full turn. That is what it's feeling like. When I shallow the club, it ends where It ends. Should I crank the torso more around?  I'll check a face-on to make sure, but it's not like I am trying to make partial backswings.  The day has finally come, when I am getting comments on not making a long enough backswing. 🤣 too much of what?  Here is my typically routine.... 1) I usually start out just doing position work. The backswing stuff we work on. Turn to A2.5-ish, shallow to A4, pause, arms down to A6. Then, slight pump drill and hit the ball.  2) I do some pause at A4 and arms down and try to hit ball from A4 instead of A6.  3) I do some full swing stuff, trying to blend it all together. Checking video to see if I am actually keeping the club shallow or not. If not, then I go back to trying to train the downswing with the stuff we worked on. I try to blend it all together again, and check video.  What am I missing here? I do the stuff we worked on. I'll keep it at, it's all I can do. Just hope it changes.  Sorry for trying to find a feel that keeps the club shallow.. 
    • Ha ha.... I'm not sure.  I've actually never watched a LIV event. ... but maybe? 👍👍
