I cannot pretend to understand her reasons, and I await the press conference on Friday. link

At least she leaves open the ability to return.

This will elevate either Jiyai Shin or Yani Tseng to the world #1 position, depending how long it takes her points to fall off. She isn't quite Tiger-like in her ability to go away for a while and maintain the spot despite barely playing tournaments.

Lorena Ochoa is expected to announce details on her retirement on Friday at a press conference in Mexico City at 8:30 a.m., the LPGA has confirmed. The World No.1 was married last December to AeroMexico CEO Andres Conesa and has 27 LPGA victories in eight seasons on the LPGA. “She wasn’t enjoying it as much,” said Sophia Sheridan, a longtime friend from Guadalajara who spoke with someone from the Ochoa camp. “She wasn’t having any fun, no motivation to practice. Why go on?” Ochoa has played four times in 2010, her best finish a fourth place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. She was visibly upset in the final round, spiking her ball into the 13th green after a three-putt. These outbursts have become more frequent for the once level-headed Ochoa in recent months. For years now Ochoa has said she will not continue playing competitive golf once she is ready to start a family. The tour gave no further details. Sheridan said Ochoa will play at the Tres Marias Championship in Morelia, Mexico April 29-May 2. Ochoa earned enough points to become the second-youngest player eligible for the Hall of Fame when she won the 2008 Corona Championship in Morelia. She needed to play 10 seasons on the tour, however, to qualify. “I’m really shocked,” said Suzann Pettersen. “I did not see this coming.”

Im assuming lack of interest in competitive golf. Or it could be her new husband. Im speculating here, but as a latin man im familar with the culture. Woman are expected to be more subservient in latin american cultures than ours, so with marriage and a family possibly on the way she may be retiring into family life.

She'll get preggo, have a couple of kiddos, get bored, try to come back, have limited success over a year or two and retire again.....

Hate to hear this, I always thought she had a solid game and she was fairly easy on the eyes.....

Best of luck to her. She is a class act with a great game.

She's made a pile of money, recently married and wants to have children. Looks like she is content with having a 'normal' family life. Don't blame her at all. I wish her the best.

For a woman, it is very difficult to dedicate so much time to a traveling game like golf while also giving in to the natural need or want of trying to start a family (especially at a younger age, she's almost 30). I give her respect and credit for having the guts to retire for family reasons. I'm sure she'll comeback in the future after she accomplishes her family goals.

Definitely easier for a male golfer to dedicate his life to golf. If a woman wants children, the golf has to be prioritized away.

Would it be wrong to suggest that her husband (who is a very successful) wants a son who will someday play on the PGA tour, and what better way than to hook up with Lorena and start producing kids.

On the other hand, maybe she just wants to be mother and have a normal life....kudos to her.

I'm really sad with this news, I don't like soccer, which is the most played sport here in Mexico, so she was the only reason that I was proud to say "I'm Mexican". But, in this case we can't do anything, so I wish her the best of luck.

Im speculating here, but as a latin man im familar with the culture..

Where are you from?

Ranked #1 in the world, 27 wins with 2 majors and 14+ million in earnings, no better time to retire than at the top of her game, I'll miss watching her play

And don't forget his husband is the CEO of Aeromexico, so I guees money won't be a problem. Haha! :D
