No offense, but I'm not sure we're on the same page here mate, literally or figuratively.

Don't have any new video to show, but this scorecard from today should substantiate my basic claims re striking.

Fresh breeze off the ocean, probably 18 mph or so. The 14th was straight downwind and I tried to drive it, missed right and was impeded by bushes, so had to play back toward the tee. 17th was straight into the wind, hit a hard 3 wood right at the stick but came up just short in the green-side bunker. Putting was the usual shite.

Nice round Stretch.  89% GIR!  That's crazy.  Sounds like we're working on similar things:  stable left knee on backswing and head-back jumping on downswing.  It's nice to know where that ball's going every single time, isn't it?  Now to sort out the putting....

No video, because it was really windy and that shirt is just a little short and, I'm not going to lie, I've been drinking quite a lot of beer lately. There was gut popout into the finish.

My newly acquired gut popout has forced me to try and drop 10lbs.  Otherwise I use it as a good swing key, knowing that I got my hips forward with my head back.

Only peripherally swing-related -- I treated myself to a new driver for Christmas. Exact same head (Wishon 919THI, 11 degree, square) and total MOI but in white this time. Plus the shaft is all ninja and shit. Woop woop woop woop woop.

  • 1 month later...

Couple of actual-speed swings with a 9 iron on a nice Cape Town summer day. Not the best, but have certainly committed worse crimes against geometry. Cut off the ball in the FO view because I'm a numpty and forgot the aspect ratio changes when you go out of slow-mo.

One thing noticeable is that I've started bouncing/fidgeting in my setup before letting it go. Very odd. Can actually see the club head tapping against the turf. Had no idea I was doing that!

And one slo-mo driver swing -- because it illustrates so clearly how I get into shit right away between P1 and P2. Minimal time to make maximum compensatory action from there.

Can see from the sticks on the ground that I have to aim my baseline way right to create a straight-to-slight-draw shot cone.

Yeah, real quick Stretch, just consider the feeling of "in and up". Hands in early, then feel like they do nothing but go UP. You have a bit of the same problem I have in getting the hands almost "too deep."

But overall, knowing the things you've been working on, they've definitely improved.

This is what I'm working on, and that's good advice for me as well.  I went from arms feeling "all in", carrying 256y average, to "all up", carrying 285y but with lots of inconsistency, to a very brief stretch of "in first, then up" carrying 305+y nice push-draw, and back to "extremely all in", carrying 235y average with a push-hook.  My grandpa outdrove me twice this weekend and he's had hip surgery and hangs back on his downswing.  Not fun times no matter who you are.  The only saving grace is that I know without a doubt that if I just make what feels like my "normal" swing, it will go left.

Obviously agree with Erik, want to add a visual to get the hands more "up".  Hands can't ascend it if the right elbow stays "high"

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
