Maybe Tiger cheated on him too?!?!?

Tiger jokes usually just make me roll my eyes

, but that was spot-on, Sean. The Tiger news just keeps on coming, doesn't it? The disc issue could require additional swing changes, to boot. DoctorK

Well, between personal problems, injuries and now probable upcoming swing changes, can't see Tiger winning at all this year.

Thing is, I think that in most cases a student can and should hit the ball better at the end of one lesson than they were coming into it.

Tiger's lesson would involve a simple study of the hand path to keep the hands and clubhead on plane the entire time. That's about it. Tiger would be hitting it better inside of a few minutes.

Maybe so.But surely if it were as simple as that Tiger would have the knowledge to fix it himself? He's one of the best golfers in the world, surely he knows a thing or two about the golf swing.

Who is to say he is even going to employ a new coach? I think there is a good chance that he just wings it solo, like many of the other greatest players have done.

Quite possible.Didn't he stay on his own for a while after he split from Butch?I may be wrong on that..

True. Why can't he just watch film of himself and see what's going wrong? He should know as much as anyone about what needs to be done to hit the ball properly. If he can't, I would be surprised.

How much he knows has been questioned by people far more knowledgeable than me. After all, his "knowledge" got him into the swing he has now, and it ain't great... His "knowledge" had him move away from the swing he had in 2000 (which wasn't perfect, but which was better than the loop-out-and-drop-under thing he's got going on now).

I think this is great news and may be the single biggest turing point in Tigers career. I guess we'll all wait and see. And for the record, I am willing to bet that Haney was fired and they mutually decided to promote it as Haney resigning to soften the blow. Think about it, Haney has schools and a lot invested into his academy's and teachings. A public firing from Tiger woods could hurt his image tremendously vs. resigning which helps to salvage his image.

I wonder if Butch Harmon will be back? I almost think Butch would decline the offer since he is working with Phil.

pretty sure Butch isnt going to coach both Phil and Tiger
If i was Phil, I would give him the ultimatum (sp?) - if you go there, ur done w me
pretty sure Butch isnt that stupid

Tiger should take up lawn bowling or something

I doubt he resigned. What good coach would quit his student? This is just PR stuff that Tiger probably wanted him to say so he has to say little when the reporters ask about Haney. He can simply say "Haney resigned".

Just a heads up, Haney is going to be on SportsCenter at 11:10ET today (They've got what looks to be a decent sized segment blocked off for him on the side bar for upcoming stories.) It might be an interesting interview.

Calling it "just PR" is just PR: you can spin it the other way as it's Tiger being a gentleman and sparing Haney the humiliation of being fired in public. (assuming that's even true, who knows)

Whatever the truth, I think this is the best way for all parties in terms of reputations. Haney doesn't have a black mark of being canned by Woods, which would look like he was being blamed for Tiger's problems. Tiger doesn't look like a whiner looking to blame anyone for his troubles. So if it is a PR move, I think it's a good one. But I don't think it necessarily is; it could simply be that Haney doesn't feel his method is appropriate for Tiger at this point. We'll never know.

i am very happy about this whole thing. i was really starting to get worried that tiger may never get back to his level of dominance that he had in 2000 or so. hope he finds someone who knows what tiger needs, and that tiger is humble enough to listen.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
