I played BeCu Ping Eye2 irons in the late 1980's and always thought they felt dead compared to the steel ones. I eventually sold the set to my brother in law (not sure why he needed those, since you can shoot 128, take giant divots and talk during your playing partner's backswing with much cheaper clubs), but I kept the S and L and still use them from time to time.

EPIC. Thank you

Played with my MacGregors this past weekend and didn't get a chance to try the BeCu Eye 2s. Will try them out at the range tonight. The set on loan from my father has the Microtaper shafts, which I understand are about 115 grams and a stiff flex with a higher kickpoint. They have the Ping Tour Wrap grips as well, which are in pretty good shape.

I just picked up a set of Ping Eye2 BeCu, three thru wedge for $355 on Ebay....should be here in a day or two.

Very nice!!! When I bought mine i was a 20 something handicap and in less that one season chipped it down a ways. When I bought mine they where going to be just for this year and then cleaned and retired but after this year they will be cleaned, regriped, and put back in play for a while to come. I LOVE MY PING BECU EYE 2'S!!!!!!!

I was checking out these clubs and they are sweet! I was thinking of brand new clubs for next season and had some I like but these BeCu clubs are just unbelievable! 20+ years old and I really want a set. I found a set on ebay that was made on my birthday. How cool would that be? Of course, they were way down the Ping color chart than what I should be shooting so I will keep looking.

To the OP, can you put up some pics? Maybe any other owners as well? I would really like to see what you got and some info on club range and what you think. I was thinking 4 or 5 down as low as I can go. I know some sets only go to PW for matching SN's but some have SW as well. If they hit a club less, oh well, I can get use to that. I really dont see a downside to owning a set of these clubs.

I did see a set from the 80's... still in wrappers for 2500! Wow that would be cool but would hurt the wallet in a huge way.

That was directed at the OP-no hate here for Wilson Staff. If I was starting completely over with $500-$600 I'd probably pick up the FG Tours or the FG59s.

My cousin who doesnt play golf has a basically new set of Eye2 Becu's. I've been trying to get him to sell it to me since I hooked him up with my old set of Callaway x16's for $150. For some reason he has 2 sets of club and doesnt play golf but he still wont sell them. I'm gonna keep chipping away to see if he'll sell them to me.

I have always loved the look of these clubs and just pulled the trigger and bought a set of 2-9 with a Wedge. I know it might be weird to buy a set of irons that are 23 years old but.... they have the original microtaper steel shafts and are all numbers matching I called Ping and the set has not been changed since new. They are plus 1/2 inch long with black dot these are exactly the setting's I need. They have new golf pride tour velvet grips I wish they where original but. I will be gaming these. They will see 36 holes a week during the season and am extremely excited about m purchase. Just wanted to scream from the rooftop!!!!!!!!!!!

You've had those bad boys long enough to have taken some pics, no?

My father has an old set of copper eye 2's orange dot. He refuses to sell them however, He picked up my last set of irons when I was through with them so how I hopefully might have a better chance. I would keep them just cant hit them well. Beautiful clubs though

Just got me a set of Eye 2 BeCu's. New grips, nice shafts, good grooves & matching SN's. I am 3rd owner. A dad bought and gave to son, he sold to me. I will use and give to my son when the time comes.

Didnt get to hit them yet, raining up here but tomorrow is another day!

I played copper eye2s when I was a freshman in highschool (97/98). I really liked them and I forgot why I sold them . One night my dad and I were cleaning the clubs and he found a can of Brasso underneath the sink and we spent the next 3 hours buffing the clubs to make them look like gold!!! hahaha. The look only lasted for about 3 rounds but it was hilarious to see peoples reaction when I pulled out the gold sticks!!!.

I inherited a full set of ping black eye copper irons; 1-9, 3 wedges, unused from my father.  They have sat in my closet for maybe 15 years.  Square groves I believe.  Steel shafts 1 inch longer than standard.  I am only 6' tall so I am told that they are a bit too long for me.  Do I need to cut them down?  Should I keep them as pristine as they are or just go ahead and play them?  I am getting close to retirement and am thinking about getting back into golf.

Thanks for your thoughts

Steve

Congrats on your new(ish) set.   Take them to some place that can do a static fitting, checking for lie, loft and length.   They can recommend any changes.  Then enjoy them.

Thanks. I will track down a club fitter in ABQ. The local pro I took a lesson from thinks that they need new graphite shafts. The grips seem to be perfect. Almost seems wrong to not keep them original. Seems even more wrong not to make them more user friendly.  User friendly seems like the way to go. Thanks again for your insight.

Take care,

Steve

Nice score.  Un-hit, matching SN, 1-LW BeCu Eye2's?

I would leave them as is.  I have some in my collection and if they are only 1" long for you just choke down if you wanna play them.  I wouldn't re-shaft them.  Whats your wrist to floor measurement?  Ping has a chart you can use for general use... tells you roughly what color dot and how long/short you should be looking at.  Its a good place to start at.

Yes Sir.  Matching S#s with very little wear.  S# in the 60,XXX range.  P # D4512577.  It has been interesting researching them on the web.  My Dad was a 8 for most of his life and was playing well into his 80s.  Unfortunately I did not follow his lead.  Too much work and not enough play.  I can play, but have not touched a club for over 30 years.  Took a lesson the other day and did not hurt my self or any spectators.  I was pleased.  The pro says I need to regrip and switch out to graphite because I am 68; arms and wrists.  I think I will follow your suggestion and just keep everything as is for a while.  If it is not broke do not fix it?

Thanks for the great input,

Take care

Steve

Its funny as your researching these clubs brought you here... if you look up a bunch of posts, I did the same 8 years ago!  I actually took them out at a Member guest tourney my friend invited me to over the summer.  I should have left them home as I didn't shoot all that well... it was still better than going to work!!

I like the line I highlighted.  Put a smile on my face.

I would say if you do swap out the shafts, save the old ones for sure.  I don't think I have ever seen Eye2 BeCu's with graphite shafts.  I have a set of ISI's BeCu's with graphite shafts.

Take them to the range a bunch of times and get use to them and then see where to go.  Do keep us posted.  Hit em straight and enjoy that BeCu feel!

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
