16 handicap with that swing, time to go to the putting green and short game area ;b

hmmmmmm i'll take that as a compliment as far as the swing is concerned. On the course I usually get complimented on my short game as far as chipping/pitching is concerned. Putting is hit or miss......... reason for my high handicap, i have "blow up" holes. I think i'm my own worst enemy on the course, a bad drive, a bad iron shot, and i kind of fall apart on the hole because i'm just chastising myself mentally. I've been focused on my irons and woods because i have "consistency" issues as far as contacting the ball is concerned. All of which i've been working hard on fixing.

I'm with you 16! I'm calling BS...looks like an 8 to me. The difference btw the city swing and the country swing is huge. The country swing looks very solid. Those blow up holes must be wild.

Hahahaha, I appreciate the compliment, it's very encouraging!!! The blow up holes........are an understatement. They really are wild, in a bad way. The "city" swing is before i sought professional help (about a month ago). Quite frankly I got tired of trying to fix my swing faults on my own. I wasn't getting the distance I felt that I should be getting, I felt like I was scooping the ball, I felt like i was "winging" it on every swing. So I found a great instructor and the swing at the "country" range is the result of a month's work with the instructor (an hour a week) and a lot of practice, and i mean a lot of practice. But really, a lot of the credit goes to the instructor for moving me in the right direction.

Looks like you've got some really nice positions going up and down to the ball. But, from this view, it seems something weird happens with your left arm "breaking" in either at impact or right after. Check the relative position of the elbow and wrists below.



Love to see a face-on view to get a better idea what is going on.

Did you find an instructor you like at the piers? I have taken lessons there, but I would prefer to take some lessons off of real grass.

I didn't take lessons at chelsea piers. I specifically wanted to take lessons and hit off of real grass and not mats, for obvious reasons. If you have a car and are willing to drive out over an hour into NJ, I highly recommend the David Glenz Golf Academy. I first attended a one day golf clinic there last year and then spent the next year trying to take what i learned during the clinic (my current instructor was one of the instructors at the clinic) and improve my swing on my own but finally threw in the towel this summer when I realized that it would just be less frustrating and more efficient to take private lessons than to learn and apply it on my own via "trial and error". I couldn't have made a better decision. Not sure if its against forum rules here to give out instructor names but if you're interested, pm me and i'll let you know who i've been specifically working with at the David Glenz Academy. He's been great, the right person for me, at the right time, and has put me on the right track to lowering my scores, and I couldn't be more pleased with the instruction that he's provided to me so far. I only wished i had the time and money to get more than just one lesson from him a week :)

I've posted an updated, current swing video taken a week ago (22 August 2011) in my original post for this thread.  Could some of you swing gurus take a look and let me know what you like/dislike, and key areas of improvement?  BTW, I've been working with my swing instructor every other week for the past 4-5 months and I plan on continuing to work with him until i go broke!!!  :)  Thanks!!!

It's really hard to pick out meaningful details without the benefit of slo-mo, but your backswing is a thing of beauty. Nice work there.

      Is This Club Blatantly Sandbagging?

      Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

      I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
