I also left after the lightning started. I arrived at about 10 AM, though, so I got to see a lot of the tournament. Johnson was on fire today.

Anyone know why Corey Pavin decided to skip the Senior PGA to play the Colonial? Seems like of a bit of a slap in the face to to the Champs Tour

Someone could argue that the champions tour, where old guys who floundered in their 20s and 30s, have taken a sip from the fountain of youth in time to take advantage of the great big golf sponsorship corporate cash cow (some real past champions now even double dipping, making tons and tons of cash on both tours) is a slap in the face to the PGA Tour, the LPGA, the European Tour, and even the Nationwide tour. Someone else could argue that argument is total BS and the Champions tour is awesome.

Well, given that the Pavin has won $300k plus on the Champs Tour this year, I am assuming that he is not in the former category..........I suppose my point is that if a guy is going to play on a tour and cash plenty of big paychecks, he should have some loyalty to its headline events....especially the Champs Tour where they are really struggly to retain some relevancy......Sergio gets killed for not playing the BMW at Wentworth....I am sure Michelle Wie would get slaughtered by the press if she skipped a major to play in a men's event....

I personally couldn't care less, as I am not much of a geaser tour guy......just curious is anyone asked the question and whether Pavin rationalized his decision?

Pavin loves colonial.
It's his favourite stop on the tour.

That's why he didn't bother going to the major, no point playing a tournament you don't like.

Pavin is a long time resident of DFW, the course suites his game, he is a past champion at Colonial.
He probably wanted to get a first hand look at potential Ryder Cup players
Winning a regular PGA tour event probably has more clout than winning a Champions Tour major.

if you were there to see the reception pavin got from the fans, you'd understand why he chose to play in ft worth this weekend.

More along the lines of the answer I was looking for....Thx UTTexas....for some reason, I always thought Pavin was a So. Cal guy -- probably b/c he went to UCLA.
